Youtube conversion

Hello!

OK, I'm trying to make this short:

I'm getting an average of around 30,000 views a day in the sports/football niche (ok, that's not really a niche, but a huge category). According to youtube's statistics, a majority of these views come from unique viewers.

I've been reading this forum for a while and it seems like everyone just wants many views = lots of traffic, and then they can easily cash in. I think I've got the views covered, but so far haven't found a way to cash in properly.

I have set up a small website, using wordpress, which targets the same audience that watches my videos -> football fans. It's pretty much a video blog for the time being, with a few hundred football videos that my youtube audience might be interested in watching. So far, I've added some clicksor layer ads/banners to the site as well as a pop up ad (or PopAd) by a different service.


Problem 1:

Within the last 5 days, I got around 190,000 views on youtube. In the same timeframe I received a whopping 850 hits on my website. Those came from a majestic 260 unique visitors.

That's a pretty miserable rate. Close to 1/1000. My best "customers" are myself and two google bots.

I have put my url in the description of all of my videos (first line, so it's always visible to everyone who watches the videos.) It's also clickable.
Furthermore, I have added red annotations to my main videos, that urge the viewers to visit my site - to see more videos like this one or to watch a longer/better/improved version of the current video etc.

The results are meagre. Infact, it seems to me that having no annotation/call to action at all and simply leaving the mysterious url in the description results in more traffic to my site. But maybe that's coincidence.


Problem 2:

So, I have received 850 clicks from 260 unique people. That's bad, but the monetization is even much worse: I've made an incredible 9 cents (!) so far from my pop up ad and a mind-blowing 21 cents (!) from the layer ads. Even with the few visitors that I've got, that's just shocking.

It appears that a majority of visitors don't even get to see the pop up. And hardly anyone clicks those layer banners anyway. Personally, I wouldn't click them. It's usually stuff that hardly interests anyone and/or that just screams "ignore me, I'm a half-assed scam advertisement that you will find on 3 billion other websites".


Questions:

1) What are good ways to turn 30k targeted youtube views into a decent amount of visitors to my site?

2) How would I best approach monetizing such a site?

Again, the audience is football fans, but it seems like they are only interested in watching the most current video and that's all. Not sure if they would even be remotely interested in buying stuff from a shady URL in a video description. But I'm no expert on this matter obviously.

I would probably try some CPA offers and all of that, but I guess I need more visitors to the site first...

use some kind of incentive to send them to your website. If your basically begging them to visit they probably wont.. use the cpa offers as incentive

You could try a content locker on your money site with a few email/zip submit offers. I know of a few people who make $100-$300 per day just by driving traffic thru comments to a content locked site. Adsense never really converted well for me from youtube hits so I gave up on that.

atleast post something constructive rather than troll.

I bet atleast 50% of the people reading this thread have those stats as their "best customers"

a program being sold here on BHW called "content lock pro" i would suggest using something like this mate

maybe it depends also on your conversion see which advertising works best for you in your case if people dont click your ads cpc then use (cpm) maybe cost per impression) or a popunder something so however the visitor acts on your site you still earn some

Use a content locker and then stream some games or something.

I think you should insert a big tag on your video with a nice title like "watch the full video on mywebsite.com"

You can try to promote a freebie offer and redirect them directly to the landing page. I am not sure if you are talking about American football or soccer. For American football there are some NFL $500 gift card offers running around, and for soccer you can try that Football Superstars MMORPG offer. Add annotations.

thanks everyone for the suggestions so far.

I'm thinking of trying the e-mail/zip submit method, both as a means to lure some more viewers to my site (with a cpa offer that will fit the viewers' interests) and for the actual monetization. With 30k viewers per day, it should be possible to get like 30 daily conversions. I mean, that's only 1/1000, which is pretty shameful, but would satisfy me already...

Does anyone know of a suitable cpa network for my situation/needs?

I keep reading about peerfly and some others, but their requirements are really, really harsh. This method I'm using is slightly "black hat" (due to using copyrighted material for videos) and I'm not too keen on the idea of giving them my full data, my ID, my phone number and whatnot under these circumstances. Especially since I have no idea if this will actually work or if I'm giving away all of my information for nothing.

And that's the crucial point anyway: I have no idea if my plan will work. At the same time, the cpa networks demand a complete, detailled plan of attack and want to know how I will drive traffic. I don't think telling them that I might get some e-mail/zip submits via some copyrighted videos on youtube will be very convincing. Infact, it would likely put them off. The only decent number I could mention is the 30k daily views, but I doubt that's enough. If they ask for the specific number of visitors to my blog/site, all I have to offer is the lousy 1,200 hits in a week. At least so far.

Any ideas on how I should go about this? Any cpa networks that are especially easy to get in and suit this kind of uncertain youtube traffic best?

I have CPA accounts at about 15 networks including PeerFly and I never did use any website in my applications. I just told them I am into video marketing and I will use youtube and other video sharing websites to drive traffic to their offers.

1,200 hits/week is not as lousy as you think for a newbie.

Make a pop up close to the end of the video saying that there is a link to your website in the description, that helps A LOT!
