yes, it's true ... they make you insert links in the video ("youtube annotations") but only linking to other youtube videos, and this links are not even available if you embed the video in a web page (and you can do these things only on videos uploaded on your account).
But there are many free online services that make you insert any kind of link in online video, like bubbleply.com or overlay.tv, but of course you can't have the exposure you could have on Youtube.
But you can embed these videos with all the affilate links you want in a web page...a single page site for example, and then promote this one in all the possible ways as a sales page: everybody in internet marketing is saying that web videos convert very well ...
Or embed these videos in social networking sites, etc.... And you can do this things with any video you find on you tube or other video sharing site,don't even need to download the videos, just use the URL and you can make the videos interactive.
