Default Emails from copyright owners

I really only messed around with youtube during the tail end of the ringtone era. How common is it to get e-mails from Youtube saying that the copyright owner has flagged the video and instead of removing it will be monitoring the stats.. After 5 of those I started getting a little (par)annoyed and yanked all the videos. Is this a fairly common thing?

yes that's common. I think YouTube strikes some kind of deal to with the owners.

I've gotten those some of those emails because of YouTube's Video Identification. I'm guessing because they didn't automatically get pulled off that the record label doesn't care if you share it cause it's just spreading the word.

But I got this today from a music video "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Warner Music Group" what are the chances of them actually doing anything other than just taking the video down? I'm thinking about re-uploading that same music vid but a different file cause it's quite popular. I'm doing the uploading through a host's server so what would be the chances of them finding me? :-p

Shit I didn't know THE LAW was on these forums. Thanks for signing up to these forums just to answer my question Well it is a paid host and the only info they have about me is my email and paypal id because I don't like to give anyone real info if they don't 'really' need it. So the more hoops they have to jump through to find me the better for me I figure. I uploaded the video again wish me luck

Very insightful. A lot of us that think that we are covering our asses are really just gratifying ourselves without paying a whole lot of attention to the details necessary to truly do it. Hey if the so called "spam king" got caught are we really fooling anyone.

Another note I am not trying to hijack this thread but it would be very great if we could get a running list of companies that dont mind user generated content using their copyrighted materials.

check it out here.

not much yet and I dont even know if there are anymore other than the only one that is currently on the list.

LOL - your poor neighbor

Best thing is to find you a nice spot around any free internet cafe and use some proxies. Change location every so often and everything should be fine (worst case the tracking ends at the cafe) .... as long as we are only talking about BH marketing
