Default [ASK] Does 301 Redirect Domain Name Influence Search Results?

I have a question for the group...

Does the domain name of a 301 redirect influence Google at all?

I have a client that has purchased all of the negative variations of their brand name (ie: brandsucks.com, brandscam.com, brandripoff.com, etc) and has 301 redirected those domains to their main domain (ie: brand.com).

My thinking was those redirects would influence Google's 'related search' with negative suggestion terms (the related searches at the bottom of the SERP page) since the keyword used to find the redirect was a negative search term.

Does anyone have an opinion on this?

    Thanks.

    LV John,
My thought is that if there is no content on these domains, they will not even appear in the index. Unless someone types them directly into a browser, there would really be no benefit to doing this other than protecting a brand if that is what they are trying to do.

When Google sees a 301 redirect, it means that the resource has moved permanently. If there is no content on the domain being redirected from, Google has no reason to keep that in the index or even add it in the first place of there is nothing there.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

@Shawn - Thanks for your reply and what you say about Google not indexing the sites makes sense.

The 301 domains appear empty with redirect's set at the registrar.

My concern for negative influence to Google is due to the related search terms displaying 5 negative search terms out of the 8 suggestions. Page one SERP results do display 2 negatives out of the 10 results, and the first 100 results do display 25%+/- negative results.

The auto-suggestion or related search is created by the often searched KW that people search for and probably by the very popular KWs that can be found on pages.

Your 301s wont affect anything and if they are brand new domains, then having them 301ed on your site is next to useless, as they wont pass almost anything.

    Thanks Pvlman,

The 301's are a couple of years old, but have no PR and are worthless for any SEO purpose. I think the owner was domain hoarding and trying to block others from purchasing them and using them for negative content sites.

    Cheers.
