I got a new project and its competitive niche. But the website have two keywords and both keywords are targeted to homepage (optimized by previous SEO company). One of those keywords should have lading page as product page ie. "keyword products" ==>> www.example.com/products . but current landing page is home page.

"keyword products" this keyword is on ranking 1st page in google.

My question is If I re-optimize this keyword to product landing page does that will effect on my current ranking for that particular keyword?

Let me know if you have any of this kind experience.

If the product page that you are trying to rank using this keyword is already in the SERP’s somewhere, it shouldn’t affect the other page. Are you planning on taking that target keyword out of the home page? If so the home page should still rank well for the other term (assuming it was doing well already).

The new page may take some time to get higher rankings if it isn’t already.

Firstly I should say that you never know how the SERP will change. Sometimes you think that your site drops because you've done something but this is due to algo updates or other site appearance or change.

If your new landing page ranks better it may drop your home page for one or two positions. I don't think it should drop more unless some strong competitor appears.

But there is one more thing. As Google ranks pages, not sites, technically both your pages are competitors. But at the same time it is proven that when other pages are relevant enough the selected page is likely to be ranked higher because of this factor. But this is not obligatory and happens from time to time, I've seen some split tests on that and it worked.

All in all there will be no significant harm to your home page, and I think it is better to make a landing page for your keywords.

One more question

I am currently ranking for 2 and 3rd page of google. If I want to change my on-page will that effect on my current ranking?
