Isn't this illegal? I just got an e-mail from them.

Thank you for signing up at Hostable and giving us a try. There has been some confusion about a few aspects of our service that I would like to clarify.

1. We are *NOT* over-subscribing or over-selling this service. Hostable is owned by Brinkster, and we have been in this business for 12 years. Our intention is to provide you with high quality service and support so that you will want to renew and stay with us!

2. Your account will renew for 3 months (not 3 years) at the rate of $6.99 per month ? you can login to your account and verify this. We will be offering discounts and incentives that will save you additional money. We made this change to help you understand that we are not trying to force you to pay us $250 USD when your account renews in three years.

3. We removed the miscellaneous fees and the $35 Early Termination Fee from sections 5.05 and 5.09 of the Terms of Service. You will not be charged these fees.

4. Hostable is 100% Wind Powered and you can add a cool green badge to your website for free. See them here.
Update: Cheesecake has contacted support:

ok.. spoke to one of their reps.. they changed the automatic renewal from 3 years to 3 months. So basically you still get the 3 years for free and after that, instead of charging you 3 years ($250 dollars or so), it will be 3 months. You can check this is the billing section in your account.

I just sent them an e-mail telling them to expect a lawyer in a calm manner. Not going to let it slide. I signed a 3 year contract for that price, therefore it should remain on my account for 3 years.

Me too. I think to цлосе my acc with him :X

Class action law suit anyone? lol

Oh well, Looks like we're all safe. But their hosting is crap anyway, I can't host half my
scripts or .exes on there.

My understanding from this is that after the 3 years, they will auto renew in 3 months increments instead of 3 years each time. So instead of paying $250 in 3 years to renew it will be $21 every 3 months. Im waiting on support right now and will let you know what they say.

Im in live chat now. Here is the question for them:

So just to clarify the email that was sent, we still have our 3 years of hosting for just the $.99. Then after that instead of renewing for 3 years at a time, we will renew every 3 months?
Will update with their answer.

Support says that my statement is correct. So no worries. We are just paying $.99 for 3 years. Then in 2014 instead of renewing for another 3 years, we will just renew for 3 months at a time.

powerteam, that is correct. As for as what they just told me.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Guess some people are a little to quick to jump to conclusions instead of reading everything from the email as it states: WHEN YOUR ACCOUNT RENEWS IN THREE YEARS.

I also suggested to them that they need to send an additional email out to super simplify and clear up any confusion that is being caused right now.

They just replied back and stated they are currently working on another email to be sent out to help clear up the confusion. Seems support is being bombarded with people regarding this.

To be fair PowerTeam,

It wasn't a very clear e-mail. I contacted support and didn't get a reply so created a thread to ask others for insight.

I agree with you. At first I was pissed since I thought the same. I then reread that section a few more times and then I understood exactly what it was saying. I think many people probably just read it once and got pissed like I did, but didnt reread it.

I havent read their email they just sent out yet, but I hope it helps clear up any confusion.

So it is actually better than previous deal. No early termination and miscellaneous fee, and comes renewal it wont be three years for 250 but only 21 for three months.

Its golden

Tony,

Please understand - you are still getting 3 YEARS of free hosting! The only change we made was that you will now renew for 3 months instead of 3 years!

ONLY the renewal changed. We did not change the initial 3 year free time period.

Many of you did not like that the account would renew for another 3 years after your first 3 years for free. So we changed that to 3 months. Now the renewal is $20.97 USD instead of $250 USD.

I apologize for any confusion this caused.

Thank you,

Jared

yea turned out great actually :P

anyone knows will that payment after 3 years be automatic or not??

Yes. they will not charge for the 1st 3 years. Then they charge $20.97 per 3 months.
I spoke to them and confirmed.

thats even more better lol, yup gonna buy from them real soon

just a quick question, if after 3 years, i decided not to renew, no penatly am i right?
