Is there any method by which we can find out the most downloaded torrents in past week/month by category like apps/movies etc.
I am aware that TBP has this feature but i am talking about other public trackers.

He's right - look no further than pb for info on what's moving.
Load the top 100 list for selected category then browse categories sorting by seeds
and compare.
Also watch recent torrents list and see what has tons of leechers very quickly

You could also check other big torrent sites like iso*hunt
