I never met such an error unless I've mixed up my Stumble accounts.

Try to log-out and then double-check your stumbleupon account details, including your profile photo, then try again sto stumbleUdon.

If this fails, you may re-upload the photo, or as a last chance you may create a new Stumbleupon account with a new nickname and a new e-mail address.

Are you sure you entered your username (not the email adress) in the "stumbleupon username" field?

I made the same mistake, instead of my username I put the email adress and I got the same ERROR message

It's a pity it was not a sales page. It was just an experiment.
But, as you see, the sudden traffic doesn't last.
It is like a fire of straw; it makes sudden high flames, but you need some heavy wood to keep the fire on. Put on the page an attractive headline and title to capture attention, make a good short review making the readers to ask for more, leave some dots (...) at the last sentence. This would be the straw for your fire. Add stumbles to get an igniting spark. Or better more sparks (more stumbles at once, via StumbleUdon). Then you must have something to keep the fire on, you must have something valuable for your visitors. Make up something too heavy, so they will not be able to grab all at once, and they'll keep returning. Add some good downloads of the day, refreshing at every 24 hours. (I've seen somewhere such javascript for a web page that shows up at once only 3-5 of your 100-300 titles or links).
You may be creative and have much better ideas.

Why such sudden visits in a large number?

Perhaps the title of the page attracted many people once it was stumbled.
Title contains "Why I hate the ...". Remember what people are educated to show interest for. Negative emotions produce a high interest, and get attention. No wonder, there are so many people who like to justify their own failures and ruined lives. I am wondering what kind of product could I sell with headline with HATE in it. Perhaps something suitable to destroy something would make good sales. "The ultimate blackhat tool to kick out your competitors out of high SERP" would be a good sale item.

Anyway, the conclusion is stumbles bring traffic as well, but traffic won't last unless you have on your page something viral, something must-to-share-with-my-friends.

I'd recommend to think about how to exploit such opportunity.
