Social Networking doubts...
So i had this huge idea and i was going to start it next month but i started to search online and i found 2 other sites that have my idea. This is fustrating because i thought at first no one would have it. The only thing im holding on to is that their sites are not known to a lot of people. Do you guys think i should create my site anyway?

Re: Social Networking doubts...
Depends what type of site, you'd have a lot easier time if it's unique and not another social networking script u can find online.

Re: Social Networking doubts...
You're never going to have a unique idea, just unique execution.
You have to pinpoint what makes yours different (Facebook specifically targeting colleges in the beginning, for example) and make that your main marketing push. Research your competition and list what they are doing right, and what they are doing wrong. How can you capitalize on each? Then continue to have the determination to see it through, don't expect things to happen overnight.

The internet's a big place, if there's only two people doing something there's usually room for a third.

Re: Social Networking doubts...
Is all on you. Yahoo was king, before Google. Before those 2, there were other search giants. Can you remember Myspace? That was the social network king back in the days. And then there was Hi5 and others. Point is, if you are willing to work hard who is to say you can't steal the space.... and become king.

Re: Social Networking doubts...
Some of the most successful people in history were not people who had original ideas, but people who could either market, execute, or improve existing ideas better than their predecessors.

Social Networking doubts...
Before there was Facebook there was MySpace. Before MySpace was Friendster. Before Friendster was six degrees. i was also on lipstickparty and makeoutclub.
My point? It's all essentially the same idea.

Re: Social Networking doubts...
I think of starting a business like a race. All that matters is who can get to the end faster to win. The end would be success. Best of luck to you.

Re: Social Networking doubts...
Absolutely. There's something you could do differently than the previous 2. You could target a different audience--even the same audience. Your site could offer something different that the others are not.
