Interesting read, though as always my personal pet peeve about people using the word "spam" for things other than unsolicited commercial email set me off while reading this. Still an interesting read.

Exactly...or call it something else if that floats one's boat, but the term
"spam" specifically connotes the sending of UCE, not mass commenting to blogs, or creating mass quantities of profiles on social network sites, or any number of other activities. "spam" is a word that carries very specific legal and technical weight.
That's why I'm touchy about it. That and that I'm a semantics nazi.

Hmmm he seems to have some nice degrees but yet he takes to flooding Pinterest with spam what a lazy bastard!

Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
Wonder how long until his Amazon ID gets banned. What a dumbass move showing the whole world that.
He could probably have hit some pretty good numbers if he just kept quiet for a while
I have a few sites doing $1000/day right now and I would NOT tell anyone about them or how they earn.

That dude made bank on that interview, I guarantee it... only way he'd of given up a $1000/day method....

I doubt it. They might have paid him a few hundred - but nowhere near enough to compensate for his "$1000 a day". Probably just some kid needing an ego boost.

True, but I do have to point out, that the article does look sorta made up. Just didn't feel right.

crazy that he would spill that much info about such a profitable method. what an ego. confirming his specific amazon account was pretty reckless too

Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
I think everyone is being trolled....the "interviewer" doesnt even have confirmed sources nor is the one responding to these questions have any proof of anything. Screenshot can be faked and there is 2 articles written prior to the interview.

-
Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
This article concerns me for both short-term and long-term reasons.
Short-term, obviously Pinterest has a fire under their ass to "clean things up." They already felt the spam/bot pinch. But now they have social/VC pressure to make new rules and limits. (just like the skimlink social pressure)
But long-term i'm more sensitive about the increased visibility on this forum. This website (DailyDot) is not the biggest site in the world, but it got picked up by some VERY big communities I will not call out by name. But LOTS of traffic, and lots of very sophisticated, big $$ people and tech geeks. People who are smart and developers who WORK at the places we write about here every day. While these ppl are very sharp, they were maybe a little bit naive/ignorant about IM in general (just another world.)
And I saw in some of these other forums, genuine surprise about this site, and IM.
An unfortunate turning point. I hope neither side goes nuclear

lol gimme4free's bots have just gained some publicity. I hope his sales go through the roof. JackSparrow even got a mention
.
I'm starting to hate this site dailydot, and I just heard of them today.
Some fool named Josh Davis (maybe his actual name) ratted the threads to Pinterest's baws. There seems to be a LOT OF RATS ON BHW LATELY, HUH?
I hate you Josh Davis, whoever you are.

man, we all know that true BH'ers DO NOT reveal ANYTHING if they are making $1,000 a day, especially not their amazon affiliate id. i severely question the realness of that interview!

Or maybe just Firebug (change a few numbers and PrtScn...) + Amazon Affiliate account + kid needing ego boost
Who knows how intelligent/on-point with fact checking the 'interviewer' was!
I'll reiterate - I have no doubt at all that it's possible and feasible to make that much per day with Pinterest, but I don't see any reason why the guy would potentially give up 1k/day for an interview.

Exactly. They could've created a fictive person based on certain characteristics that would reflect his image as a "professional spammer". It's pretty weird if you get to think about the fact that he (if he does exist) was smart enough to settle some puzzle pieces and reach to that amount of income, yet he was such a dumb ass not to realize that he is "chopping the tree on which his house was placed". I mean he is hurting himself, just for the sake of some ego fueling. And the Amazon aff. ID part.. that just made the whole story plain stupid.

Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
Gizmodo has the story as well. I'm wondering if this guy is full of shit. It does not matter as Pinterest is going to start cleaning up and start plugging some holes.
Not going to post it here but there is a easy way for Pinterest to find linked accounts after they find one spam account since they are using the invite method to get people signing up.
I hate the fact that you need to sign up with twitter or facebook (and then unlink).

There are still some working direct invite links where you can bypass the invite system.
Capture and monetize your users on every site they visit.

Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
So they brand marketers as spammers now? Psh.

Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
Man this all sounds very fishy to me, seems like someone is very very pissed at BHW and some botcreators ... why would you give up a 1000$ method and attract lots of unwanted attention, just doesn't make any sense!
In the near future nothing is going to be shared here anymore because of that possible heat ...

Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
What a f'ing idiot! I doubt his numbers are any real though. Like meathead mentioned in this thread, people actually do keep this stuff secret.
He probably got raped by some other spammers and needed something to calm his d'baggery back-end.
Just lame.
That being said, it won't effect any of my operations.

Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
I know somebody that was spamming Pinterest 24/7 a few weeks ago (before they implemented the 1 post per day limit) and they weren't making anywhere near $1k per day. The women on that site like to look but rarely actually buy stuff.

I'm not involved in pinterest, but you gotta be a complete fucking retard to expose your money making method to everyone.
Gotta be a complete social reject to need the attention that bad that you do that interview.
PS. I shoulda gave pinterest more attention earlier!

Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
Just had a few friends who are VA's say that "oh I might want to learn how to spam since the money is there (after reading that article)". For the newbies, they now have made link building and spamming synonymous.

Ah, but after I use the direct link will I then need to wait for "P" to accept my invite (which could take hours or days).

Well. Women do buy, but they don't like seeing tons of pins that all direct to Amazon. I market my products on Pinterest from my store and I am getting sales from Pinterest, but that's a bit different. Point is that women are buying. With that said, I don't believe the person in that interview is making that much per day on Pinterest. There is a very long thread on Pinterest in the money making section here on bhw with lots of suggestions, ideas, and lively conversation. The people who are using Pinterest for Amazon commissions are not making that much at all, and they are working hard with their pins. They're making under ten dollars in commissions. The person in that interview would have to have at least 800 Pinterest accounts to make that much per day. I'm sorry but I don't believe it.

Agreed. I'm in a similar situation. Whitehat linking direct to my own targeted business, and it's doing well with Pinterest.

This doesn't seem unfathomable to me. We definitely hear of people with that many accounts or more on Twitter. There's definitely more overhead to do this on Pinterest. (The FB/Twitter requirement.) But we've seen crazy stuff.
In any case, whether he's telling the truth or not doesn't make much of a different to me. I'm mostly disappointed in the fallout from the interview: Public/VC pressure on Pinterest to add a bunch of new rules/limits, and a new spotlight on this very forum (hello new readers!).
-
-
He did say that he had multiple amazon accounts. He might have showed one of them, or he faked it. He really did not give up any method. Pinning an affiliate link on pinterest is not new.

Re: "A Pinterest Spammer Tells All"
There is no way any intelligent person would give up this income just for a web interview. Doesn't smell right.
Seems more like either:
- They wanted to get Pinterest's attention so as to ruin the party for the real money-makers.
- They are selling bots here, and this was a pre-sell stunt to drive traffic to their sales pages to make a quick buck off the newbs who want to 'get into spamming'. Everyone knows it's only a matter of time before Pinterest puts an end to these bots. This person probably figured, 'Hell, the ship is sinking, but that doesn't mean I can't keep selling admission'.
Was anyone else astounded at the blatant misogyny?
Trust me when I say Pinterest is NOT invite only. That’s a marketing ploy to get people interested, and women will fall for it instantly. No disrespect intended to anyone.

Yeah, I read it and winced. I haven't said anything because the way women are referenced visually and verbally in IM communities is so surreal to me, I figured I was alone in how I saw it.
