Tips for gaming Reddit for massive views?

I've consistently received targeted views on Reddit for blog posts and youtube videos by selecting the right subreddit (usually between 5K - 100K subscribers) when I nail a good headline.

My question is this: Do you have any tricks or strategy for breaking onto the front page or at least going past 1000s of views into 10,000s ?

I know one guy in 2010 gamed it by creating a bot that sent 100 upvotes from different IPs (plus a few downvotes to make it look natural) within one hour and then real upvotes took over and he got massive results. Apparently if you can get at least 80 upvotes within an hour of posting it starts to take off..

Reddit is surely tougher to crack in 2012. Any ideas?

Post genuinely good content in the right subreddit with a simple and catchy headline and maybe get some friends to upvote it to get it started off. There isn't very much more to it. Getting to the frontpage of the site is almost impossible; aim to get to the front of the subreddit in question.
