Best Username?
If your real name has been taken on Twitter, YouTube, FB etc. what username do you pick?
www.twitter.com/Real***
www.twitter.com/The***
www.twitter.com/whois***
www.twitter.com/i***
www.twitter.com/**_**
www.twitter.com/***_
I don't really like any of the above.
If at all possible I like to keep all of my accounts the same.

Re: Best Username?
This is a hard one.
First of, you could contact the owner of the name you desire and perhaps work out a deal.
An alternative would be to pick a non common name to begin with.
I don't know about stats on Peter Bruce but my guess is that is more than a common name.
Your third alternative would be a new name. I hope that should you pick a new name, you pick something that is not common.
You could also try to spell it in different ways but I have a feeling that's not an option for you. Its a bad idea anyways if you want to be found. A name like Sasquats Uncle would be easier to remember than Bruc3 Peters0n. Right?
Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

Re: Best Username?
on twitter you can see these variations a lot: @therealpeterbruce, @iampeterbruce

I was thinking about adding 2 to the end. Isn't easy for others to remember though IMO.
Looking for something creative that would be easily remembered.

Re: Best Username?
You can t do better if you want to keep your name intact.
To resume the only choice you can have is 2 or 3 letters or numbers before or after your original name. Or another choice is to mix mumber with your orignal name. For exemple use number 3 for "e" p3t3rbruc3 ...

Yeah, Using numbers in your name really confuses things. Also looks unprofessional.

Re: Best Username?
Use your site's most important keyword.
If that's already taken, use your site's second most important keyword.
If THAT's already taken, use your site's third most important keyword.
Etc...

I like to keep them all the same too.
Best to think of a really unique name and use it across all networks.

you need to think of removing the profile picture you're using at the moment, because:
"Misuse of Twitter Badges: You may not use a Verified Account badge or Promoted Products badge unless it is provided by Twitter. Accounts using these badges as part of profile pictures, background images, or in a way that falsely implies affiliation with Twitter will be suspended."

I was using that image temporarily until I found one to use.
Thanks for the info!

Re: Best Username?
I use hyphens or underscores, if the site I'm joining accepts them, so peter-bruce, and peter_bruce would be options. I haven't particularly had problems getting people to follow such names, but I don't print my Twitter IDs on business cards or anything. I think when people click a link to follow, they don't care what the user name is or how easy it is to remember.

I just added a 1 to my name. Ugly, but the only option I had :/

Re: Best Username?
Perhaps "Peter the Bruce". For some reason I just like the sound of that (being a Scot and all).

Yeah, That's the usual choice.
Doesn't look too great.

Re: Best Username?
I had a similar dilemma, when I first signed up on Twitter.
Someone was using my nickname (which is not common at all, since it's a play on my given name, which in itself, is not very common, either) and not only did the dude only Tweet ONCE (the day he signed up), but he had been inactive for over a year and wasn't even replying to direct messages. Annoying.
So, what I did was, put "THE" in-front of my nickname - made it sound/look even better. However, since yours is intended to reflect professionalism, I would have used officialpeterbruce.

The most annoying thing is when people create an account with the username you want then never use it!

My sentiments, exactly! Especially when, your username is so rare.
I tried everything to get it (even contacting his ONLY follower), but alas, Twitter rules, are Twitter rules.
Bunch of lamos.

Re: Best Username?
I think if an account isn't used for a certain period of time it should be terminated for others to register with.
