Google is making a big new push into social with a feature called ?+1? that is similar in purpose to the Facebook ?Like? button, but integrated directly into the world?s biggest search engine.Starting Wednesday, users who opt into the http://www.google.com/experimental (and soon everyone else) in Google Labs will start seeing a +1 icon next to each link in Google search results.
Google defines this action as a ?public stamp of approval,? and it is exactly that. When you +1 something, your name becomes associated with that link ?in search, on ads, and across the web,? according to the company. It also shows up in a feed on your Google Profile, which is required to use the product.

Well it only look at your friends +1? Like through a GMAIL account or something?

Well your website can track how many people have +1 your site .
I bet there will be some kind of filter that will order higher +1 sites to the top.
I'm sure other sites will track how many +1's a site has.
hmmmm

Countdown to someone selling +1 spam to "boost your SERPs" has begun.

I've been doing this since the announcement actually just in case, lol. I've already got my 4 google accounts +1'ing every single page for my main site, although google has 4000 of them index, ugh.

they are going to want everyone to have a google phone verified account. And i reckon SEO will be based on a +1 system next

having a new phone number every day and using your bot to verify SMS is not that hard

It is interesting to see G doing a copycat of a prominent FB feature - signs they are feeling the potential disruption by FB. However, I wonder if +1 will be become a ranking factor by the search algos.
