safest way to sell a site privately?
if i was looking to sell a site privately, how is best to do this?
flippa's fees seem rather high but maybe worth it if its a sure way of getting paid and exchanging the site and domain name safely.(im still not sure of the process even though i have done a lot of research the last few days)
i haven't sold a site before and i just need to know a little more as i would hate to get burned and loose a site of such value.

Re: safest way to sell a site privately?
Privately implies it is not an open auction.
If you want to sell in an open auction Flippa is your easiest option. Flippa fee's may seem high but if your website is making money and you are willing to spend those extra pennies for more exposure then you will recoup the money.
If your website is earning over $1000/month in net profit then you may want to find meathead who is a moderator of this section as he may be able to broker for you and take the sale out of your hands, find a good reputable buyer and handle all the other little things that you have limited experience with.
Either way, if your site is selling for over $500 i would consider using escrow, it is safer than paypal.
I have sold a few websites privately having received offers via email, i as a seller have checked them out, asked for a lot of information, spoken to them on the phone etc and then proceeded with the sale via escrow - it's not just sellers who need to do their due diligence.
I hope that helps a little.

Re: safest way to sell a site privately?
yes thanks for the replies guys.
i considered escrow.com but then i find info around that even they are not totally secure.
if im selling the site privately i would not put it on fiverr as they would take their $2000 and then i would have escrow fees ontop.
i have checked the guy out already and seems genuine and has plenty of other websites himself. its just the getting the money im worried about as it would be a large amount.
i deffinatly don't trust paypal with any sort of money, they are not a bank and not held to any of the regulations even banks are held to!!!
do escrow.com do banker draft transfers direct to bank accounts?

This is sound advice. I would agree with this.
It all depends on your reasoning behind the privacy though. If privacy is necessary, I'm not sure how well you are going to be able to convince people to do business with you.

the reason i say privatley is because i have been made offers on the site by a third party who wishes to buy after finding me in the number 1 position in google rankings.
Public auction would be fine if i was looking for a buyer and wanted to give up the %age to flippa for helping source a buyer which i already have.
Thank you for all the replies you have been most helpful.

Re: safest way to sell a site privately?
If you want a private and safe sale, go through a broker. This will cost you more than Flippa, but you'll likely get more money anyway.
If you want to risk selling it yourself, then go for Flippa and go with a public auction.
Depends how much privacy you want, really. If your site is good, a broker is almost always your best bet. Flippa is best for sites that have "potential" and not much else

Re: safest way to sell a site privately?
Hey Meathead I'd like to contact you regarding brokering my network of earning sites. Was going to flip on flippa next month but after some research and due diligence I believe it's a good idea to contact yourself.
I can't PM yet, Im working on getting to 15 posts
