I read online somewhere of someone who bought a domain with a good keyword phrase and and sold it for about $120-$150. No setting up, no design, home page, nothing. Have any of you ever tried it?

I guess it has to have really good name to be flipped like that.

Domain flipping is a good idea but I do not find it done so often as site flipping.

I have sold some domains too...but it is one of those things that look easy from the outside, but requires more work. Also, the key determinant factor is the domain name itself.

Following are my answers:
1. There are several types of names in demand, while some obviously good names take years to sell. You wil have to look at domaining sites (like DNJOURNAL - this is a great site) to study the type of domains that sell. I know that 3 to 4 letter domains are in high demand (but again there are some alphabets to avoid...like X, Z, Q, Y, etc.)

2. I look at GoDaddy Auctions, Cax, AfterNic, Sedo & FreshDrop

3. End-users are the best buyers (other domainers / webmasters might pay, but nothing close to what a company will).

4. I don't use any software...just look at various lists (on the sites I mentioned).

5. Yes f/time income is possible, but more difficult than it looks. This is because one month you may sell names worth 10k, and the next 3 months there may be nothing. Best thing to do is have passive income from another source, and then you can get into domaining without risking too much.

6. Common pitfalls are most starting domainers go ahead and buy many domains without knowing anything about how to sell them. Also, which domains are valuable and how much is their value is extremely relative. One person might think a name is junk, while another may offer a few thousands for the same name. So, it takes a great deal of study, and experience to know what to buy, how much is it worth, different ways of marketing and selling them.

Hope this helps! My suggestion is have some other form of income, as domaining is lucrative but tricky. Then, buy some domains > sell them and re-invest. Do not buy a bunch of domains with the hope that they will sell. This is an illiquid market.
