Default Post Sale Support = Headache

I just sold my first site on flippa. I was wondering what you guys do for post sale support. I see most people include support for x amount of days. The thing is, the auction ended early today and Ive been bombarded all day with messages. I dont mind this for now because the guy is a new site owner but im guessing it can get old fast. Asking me all kinds of questions about wordpress, seo,etc..

I would always clarify what I'm offering BEFORE I sell the site. It only gets messy if this is all agreed after sale.

At the very least, I'd transfer the site for them and prepare some documentation on how to run the site.

In other cases we might offer free SEO for x months and other incentives like that.

I would send the buyer links where he could find the information he is looking for and ask him to read up.

For this one, provide a professional response to any questions, answering them if you can or pointing him in the direction of the answer if it is long winded or a complicated response.

    - If the question directly links to your sale then obviously answer it.
    - If it is a broad question like "how do i do SEO?" then point them at insightful articles or links.

When you sell your next website as somebody mentioned before, create simple documentation that helps the buyer navigate his new website, answering any questions you beleive he may have (also this first sale will provide many questions you didn't think would be asked ... so include them in your documentation)

Here's a little tip from me

Often with brand new sites, the buyer will be extremely new to the whole "game", because there will be a lot of questions, inside the documentation i include affiliate links to various ebooks or services.

New website buyers often need web hosting, so either provide them with web hosting or you can provide an affiliate link/coupon for something like hostgator.

By providing these useful affiliate links in the free documentation you provide, new website owners appreciate the effort and help and often buy via your link - i can often double or triple my profit on a single sale just by doing back end promotional work like this.

Also, create a mailing list of buyers - These guys have bought from you before, theyre willing to part with money and if you have provided a great post sale service are willing to look at any marketing emails you send! ... Which means future $$$$$

    Hope thats helped a little.

    Sorry to bump this thread..
I have the exact same thing going on right now. I specifically mentioned in the listing I only want people to bid that at least have some experience in IM, how to setup sites etc, cause I want both the buyer and site to be on the same level.
So I had this guy bidding, he had no feedbacks so I contacted him about his experience.. he showed me 2 excellent sites he says he runs.. so I'm OK, thinking he's a qualified buyer. Right after the auction, he paid pretty fast. And after that, it's like I'm talking to a completely different person. I moved the site for him, prepared plenty of documentation/guides and send it.. I'm getting bombarded with PM's [could you setup this..? I have a hard time setting this up etc etc.], this is getting old very soon I'm trying to be nice to the guy, as he hasn't left any feedback yet. And paid through PP... but geez.. why do people even decide to buy a website when they have NO clue??

I can tell right now this guy will just fail with this site and that feels pretty bad.. I really hoped my warning in the auction was enough
