Recently I've seen a lot of coupons sites sold on flippa with very good price. I checked their adsense earnings, most are in old format. I started a coupon site before with 14k exact search and it earns pennies. However, the sites on flippa, which have much less search than mine get quite good earnings. I just wonder are they real or the sellers just made up the earning reports? You know, it's pretty easy to do so.

flippa sites are famous for inflating earnings.

you can make money, but the money you make would not be as much from adsense as from lead gen using CJ or something like that.

Okay 14k exact searches but are you getting traffic/are you ranked? I know you know there are a lot more factors than having a site in the keyword/niche

Yes, many of them are, but not all coupon kws are created equal. Some are just good for the adsense value only, while others have good affiliate income potential.

I used to have a few coupon sites, but they're really difficult to monetize. Adsense doesn't work that well for them and I never had any luck with CPA on them. I have since moved on to more profitable niches.

Couponing is becoming pretty huge, to the point that there is even a TV show devoted to people who will use coupons to get a month's worth of shopping for pocket change. It makes sense that there would be a lot of people looking for coupon sites online, but the issue I would have with trying to monetise it is that these are people looking to spend less, not more. So whether it be commission, CPA or anything else, they're not going to be easy marks.
