Scammed for $550 - RepGuys Scammer = Mugshots!
Hey, BHW.
I have lost about $550 when a friend of mine introduced me to someone with the Skype handle "repguys".
So I had a decent chat with "repguys" for 3 hours whose name is Corey or something like he told me. Later, when it was the topic on facebook and viral scripts, he had told me to invest $500-$600 and I get 50% off whatever the share it is.
So, since you know facebook + viral script and this guy seemed legit, I sent him the money through paypal (gift) and asked him how long it will take to setup. He said the money goes to someone he knows, a programmer who is behind this project.
So I've been waiting on that money, as he said the project will kick into action in 24 hours. That 24 hours has been 240 hours so far.
So today, I felt a little suspicious and googled the skype name "repguys" and guess what, the bloody mugshots thread appeared and a little search had revealed that it is none other than our bloody idiotic poo-eating mugshots.
I know I've been stupid guys. All this convo has been happened outside BHW and so I do acknowledge mods can't do anything on this issue, but I just thought to put this out to everyone.
$550 is not a big deal to me at the moment to pull hair about, but I've just talked to paypal on the phone and filed an "unauthorized transaction" claim since the payment I made was as a "gift" and I know my chances to win the money back by disputing it in the form of "item dispute" are less.
He told me that's his wife.
I have been so stupid and learned my mistake.
I'll keep the forum updated.
+rep to Winchester as it was his post that was indexed in google.

Re: Scammed for $550 - RepGuys Scammer = Mugshots!
I dont know this guy much around here but the skype name was on my list and I remember this guy was asking for an exchange of my paypal funds to his liberty reserve. He said he can send the funds right after he gets his "pin" because LR wont allow him to login at office.
The next day this guy told me he can send it already but a few hours later he said he's having problems again and It already because suspicious but I still ride into it. And that stupidity lasts until 2 weeks. He kept asking me to send first and I kept asking him for a screenshot of his account with our conversation wide open on the other side but he just cant do it. Dern..

Pretty sure it was the vegas thread because the last time I talked to him he also mentioned about vegas. How stupid I was to not realize the whole play.
He's somehow obsessed with vegas shit.

Re: Scammed for $550 - RepGuys Scammer = Mugshots!
I know you used Paypal, but what was the actual payment vehicle? If it was a credit card (or debit card) you may simply file a chargeback with your bank or lender. This is free and they will always side with the cardholder over Paypal.
This only makes sense; Paypal (or any merchant) has to accept credit and debit cards in order to do business. The bank knows they cannot lose PayPal as a customer.
They could lose you on the other hand if they do not decide to give you your money back and you switch banks or transfer the balance from your cc to a competitor; they are sure to side with you.
The only concern with circumventing PayPal's dispute process is that PayPal reserves the right to limit your account and hold the funds until you reimburse the recipient if PayPal finds that you were in the wrong and the recipient was not.
I really doubt this would happen; RapeGuy is sure to have a rep.
Hope this helps!

Re: Scammed for $550 - RepGuys Scammer = Mugshots!
Hey,
Thanks for the heads up. Here's something that I guess might help a bit.
Since the payment was sent as a gift, reversals are not usually granted, but I guess exceptions are considered.
Since this guy is a reputed scammer, chances are that he might be having quite a few chargebacks on his Paypal account. If you can bring this to the notice of Paypal mentioning that, to the best of your knowledge this guy has scammed many other people over a period of time. Perhaps, paypal reps will study the scammers account more nicely and rule the decision in your favor. Chances are that they might also block his account.
I always make it a point to do this whenever someone scams me through Paypal because I am sure a scammer keeps hunting for preys and generally has few or many chargebacks. It;s important to bring this to the notice of Paypal couple of times while filing a chargeback.
P.S

I wan't using any CC, just the actual paypal account itself.
He also told me to send the payment as a gift. His plan was well played out.
He told me he knows someone who's programming the app but is only accepting western union and I've told him I cannot do that.
Then I asked for this direct paypal and he told me it was locked with some $XX,XXX in it. Didn't go much in details about that.
Later, he said he's gonna use his wife's account and send the money as a gift and he'll also send it to the other person as a gift.
It was so well played out, and hadn't he used that skype name I would never ever know about it.
Since I sent the payment as a "gift" I cannot do a dispute saying, "I haven't received the item since you know it's a "gift"
Instead, what I've done was dispute it as an "unauthorized transaction" and called paypal immediately on the phone and told 'em I had no recollection of that payment.
So, have to see how this goes.

Sorry to say, but the chances of winning are bleak because I guess they track ip and all. You will most likely get a reply like this, "We couldn't find evidence of unauthorized transaction and the claim was not ruled in your favor" ( Been there, done that...)
As opposed to this, being honest with Paypal improves your chances of winning the case, even it it's a gift payment. As I mentioned earlier, force them to review and study the scammer account nicely. This helps with scammers who have many chargebacks on their account.
Anyways, our best wishes are with you

My answer to this is play dirty.
File an unauthorised transaction despute. Tell paypal you have no idea who made the transaction but it wasn't you. Tell them you have some see some suspicious software on your PC which has been doing some odd things recently which looked like it was logging into paypal through a small browser window.
There is an 80% chance you will get your money back. If this does not work, go to your bank and tell them paypal have taken the funds from your account with zero authorisation and the bank will then take the money from paypal.
I have done this countless times when I have been scammed and it has worked plenty of times. Play ignorance and you will win.

Did you do what I told you and that was to go to your bank. Paypal did the same to me and I simply went to my bank. When the bank get involved paypal automatically shit themselves.
Tell your bank you saw the money taken out of your account and have no idea who did it, they will take the money from paypal and paypal will take the money from the scammer.
This is how it works.

The problem is you are the one who start calling super11 a bullshit. Then something happened against your suggestion. Do you think Kickflip made a mistake to ask you that kind of question?
By the way, take care of your own business. I saw that you were reported on the shitlist section. Look at this url http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackha...-dark-one.html
