Default TIM FERRISS- Your thoughts on this Charlatan please!

This guy! WTF? Is he a marketing genius or a complete scam shitter? what the fuck man, I'm so angry with this fucker, I picked up a copy of 4HWW in my local bookstore and followed it to the letter and more or less wasted 18 months of my life on this shit. The upside being, I discovered BHW in the process. But seriously, there's obviously some clique in the US with guys like this, he writes just like Neil Strauss and in his 4 hour body book he even mentions he was hanging out with Strauss, maybe u guys in the states are more savvy but is there a total community of these "lifestyle gurus" in the US? Fuck that shit man, the guy makes me sick with his bullshit. With regards to 4HWW he's basically streched an incredible piece of sales copy across 200 pages and missed out the paypal button. Why, cos motherfuckers had to pay cash in advance before even reading that shit!

Yeah I'm angry, but to be fair, props to the guy, I'm more envious to be honest but he's a fucking modern day rasputin!

What are your thoughts on this guy? Is he for real?

Sounds like he Black Hatted you.

He got you to waste 18 months and you still want to know if he is for real.

My understanding is if you send him another 997.00 that he will set you up with the 2HWW as well.

And for 1997.00, you'll get the bonuses he offers as well!

I actually got a lot out of that book. It took you 18 months to read a short book?

If it took you that long, i'm not sure if you are really grasping what he was talking about.

I didn't try to model my business after his business but his thinking has certainly influenced my life and business for the better. I could see how you might think he was a scammer if you tried to recreate his business.

I am a stay at home mom of 4 (soon to be 5) so dancing in Argentina and a lot of the rest of his lifestyle ideas are not exactly for me.

But for me personally, I felt like I needed permission to outsource all the things in my life that I don't enjoy. I grew up with the idea that paying others to do something that you could do yourself was wasteful. Now I feel like not outsourcing is wasting your time and your life. I have Tim Ferris to thank for that.

No I read his book in a day dude, I'm talking about him simplifying everything to a level where he makes things sound so easy. I'm not so easily fooled, but I feel for others who have read his book and believed they can make 40k a week by coming up with some shitty niche product and using adwords, it's fucking bullshit.

You guys are right, with regards to him having an inspirational lifestyle, but it angers me that he is a fake, if any of you have read the 4 hour body you will know what I'm talking about. And I have no qualms in saying I have him to thank for alot of things and that book is definatly a great motivator but I'm surprised more people haven;t been angered by his tactics. Although, like I said before, he's an incredibly smart guy and kudos to him for that, but it really is a total scam.

If I basically summarised the 4HWW and stuck it on here as a method, It would get fucking destroyed by everyone. If anyone actually thinks he's legit, then why the hell are you on BHW trying to make money instead of being on a mini - retirement , winning the salsa global championships, beating the worlds best chinese kickboxers and putting on 34 lbs of muscle in 4 weeks huh? Open your eyes people!

I used some of the suggestions in the 4HWW - esp the outsourcing stuff and my business exploded. I went from making a part-time income to full time in less than a year. It would have been faster but I didn't remove myself enough from the process. Funny thing when I figured that out I had almost nothing to do and got lazy for this whole summer.

Tim Ferriss is a genius. His book changed my life.

Actually I launched my software company after reading his book. It definitely works, but you need to take action. And you don't start out working 4 hours a week.

I pull it back out every few months and read it again. It's an amazing book, with tons of information. While you're at it, check out Four Hour Body by him. Another great read.

Of course he's for real. He's traveled all over the world, makes a ton of money, and does some pretty awesome things. Just read the first few pages and you'll see what I mean.

He invests in tons of large companies and is all over the tech scene in San Francisco.

Maybe it's a man crush, but he knows what's going on. Check out his blog at fourhourworkweek dot com.

And if you haven't heard of him yet, go get the book. It will change your life.

    >

And Mini Retirements are the coolest thing ever. I took one earlier this year down to a beach house in Mexico. Why wait until the end of your life?

And 34 pounds of muscle in 30 days. Check it out, he tracks everything. He has all the data.

The 15 minute female orgasm is also a great read.

Obviously his book titles are very catchy, but you need to take action to get results. I read both his books and thought they were very useful, especially 4HB. Following his advice, I was able to lose 4-5% body fat and gain a bit of muscle.

I've learned a lot from 4HWW, and I'm implementing a lot of stuff in my own life. One of the best books related to marketing and lifestyle I've ever read.

Btw he's launching the 4 hour chef soon http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog...k-with-amazon/

I read the thread, and I also read the books.

As for catchy titles. 4HWW was originally called "Drug Dealing for fun and profit" or something along those lines. He found 4 Hour Work Week Converted a lot better on an adwords campaign.

    >

In his book he taught a speed reading class at Princeton. He sold 30 spots and $50 each, and made $500+ an hour. (not bad for a student in college).

He also created his own health supplement that at one point was making 80k profit monthly. That's while he was doing the 4 hour work week. He then sold that company for a ton of money.

There's better books for learning to outsource, but take the lessons from the book.

    >

It's a little dated, but the concept is there. If you can understand that, then you can use it to succeed.

If you're just going to try and copy his exact methods, it's not going to work.

    >

I don't get how people think he's fake. Maybe he makes it sound easier than it is for most people, but he has a working recipe. Info products can still make a lot of money.

And the Four Hour Body, he has data to show all the weight gain, weight lost, and had tons of people to test it out on. He tracks everything, so there's no real arguing with it. Definitely legit.

I do apologise for sounding angry in my previous post didn't mean to direct it towards you guys. I'l admit, I was blown away buy both 4HWW and 4HB ,to an extent though that his writing style is so incredibly hyped you get totally sucked in and if you fail to achieve the results he says are achievable then you feel like shit so I guess thats where it came from. But to be fair, I do agree, his ideas in principle are pretty damn awesome, and although I don't fully believe the results of his "geek to freak" muscle gain experiment, I did try it for around 6 weeks and did notice a big difference.

I've always believed that kind of lifestyle is possible and I was glad I read 4hww as it confirmed to me that it is possible, but his writting style really does make things sound much easier than they are. I was rather he was like some of the guys here and said- "yeah it's possible, but it's hard work all the way, just don't give up" or something along those lines, cos I'm extremely resilient, and i find it hard to swallow when he says certain things that people who try to achieve this lifestyle who aren't quite as resilient will read his book, fail and give up for ever .

The book isn't a step by step method for people who need to be spoonfed (sounds like you), it is a very rough blueprint / mindset.

It is up to you to figure out how to get from A-Z, but a lot of the concepts in that book are life changing if you grasp/implement them.

You are the problem, not Tim Ferriss.

Tim Ferris is the shit man!

I got 4HWW on audio ebook and I listen to it at night from time to time.

Like MrE said.... its up to you to find the route not just copy his business model step by step.

Any ways.... I think its as much about changing your mind and the way you look at the world as it is a business book.

I actually took action and did the staring thing... almost got me into a fight...

I also did the go to a public place and lay down for 2 min.

I did this in town centre!... mid day... during lunch!

F@ck that shit man... 1 day will come I WILL MAKE IT!...

Thanks to people like Tim Ferris and Napoleon Hill, Robert Kiyosaki, J.Rhodes to name just a few.

Bro if you have not reached your goals, its not anyone's fault but your own.... dont be mad... maybe you were aiming too high at the time... Just keep working!

You can never duplicate someone's success, but you can analyze what they've done and use that to find your own.

If there is anything one should get from reading that book, it's inspiration.

Basically "it" didn't work for you. You expect to be spoonfed? Want a guaranteed system for success?

    It doesn't exist.

Tim explains stuff that works. But no one is going to hold your hand and help you fill in the blanks.

You sum up what I'm saying perfectly, and have thus restored my faith in BHW despite some of the fucking fools on this site. For all you cocksuckers that completely missed my point,I've never been spoonfed in my life, I didn't copy his methods step by step. My grudge is with his simplistic view of how to achieve a 40k a month lifestyle. I didn't fail in trying to achieve what he did, what I'm saying is he is a fucking CHARLATAN! A liar. A very, very good one, and an incredible marketer.
I'm not blaming anyone for my failure. I haven't failed. I'm just saying, he's full of shit, get a grip you soggy lunged twats.

Also... with regards to 4 hour body, ask any highly trained martial artist or athlete about some of his methods and they will laugh in your fucking face, you honestly think they have somehow, during their entire lives of dedication to their sport/art have somehow missed Tim's "secret" methods to massive weight gains and huge strength increases, come on. Jesus, It's like the fucking blind leading the blind on here sometime. Plato's cave so it is.Wake up.

mungus here's the thing man.....every book you read you take what you like out of it and apply to your life. there aren't many books that should be taken exact word for word.

what you should take from 4HWW is his lifestyle choices and concept for a better life through outsourcing everything and not working like a dog for the rest of your life....as for the internet marketing section that's extremely basic stuff. Yes it's not that easy to make a product and market it on adwords. but take his concept and run with it. could you do a version of this? Yes. Could this lead you down other internet marketing ventures? Yes.

since i read that book it has sparked me to get where I am today. working 2-3 hours a day, travel, outsource, live in my dream city ect. reading that book got me away from the conventional thinking of "work your balls off 9-5, live a safe life, and hopefully if your good enough you'll retire at 65".

Arrow Re: TIM FERRISS- Your thoughts on this Charlatan please!

Timothy Ferris is A TOTAL liar. And I'm serious about it.

You will have a lot of guys defending him if you criticize Tim. But that doesn't change the truth.

If you search Google, you are gonna find some posts from people who have work with him, telling that he doesn't work 4 hours a week. He works A LOT.
The week that Tim actually works a four-hour work week will be a cold week in hell. Tim got to where he is by being an insanely hard worker. I don't know anyone who worked harder at promoting a book than he did. But the thing is, he didn't call it work.
He didn't achieve almost anything he claims hi did. Some of them, he did. But because he lies SO hard on a lot of them (like he was a “guest lecturer” at Princeton), all the crap get's mixed with the little truths. And I'm not even mentioning that all the reviews he got from his book when it was released were fake. Everybody knows that.

He wasn't making too much money with BranQuicken. Not nearly what he was claiming. And tjis is really important.

Before starting applying his methods, I went to Google and perform a basic search. Back then, he wasn't such a big star, so you could find a lot of great info easily, like the "unsupported claims" section on wikipedia (that's gets deleted over and over for guys that are great at wikipedia's rules). I also saw a video testimonial of him BEFORE 4HWW... you have to see it.

What I'm trying to say here is that Timothy Ferriss it a great self-marketer. But his "system" does not work. And that it's what matter to us.
Every time you criticize a self help guru, you are going to get a rant from a lot of people saying "he is the real deal, I just work 4 hours per week and I make 40k". But that's a lie too.
He might be "inspiring" (if that inspire you), but so is religion. And we all know they are both a lie.

Inspiration, sometime, can be found in a turd. So you can take what the book may have give you: you don't have to ask for permission to work less, outsource, etc. That did nothing for me, cause I already knew that (and I was doing it), but not all of us start from the same place.

You lost some time. I'm sorry. But a lot of us chase the wrong star at a point in our life. It's not that terrible. Rant, relax and move on.

A big hug (a manly hug).

NOW THIS GUY, gets my point and the dude above! Kudos to both of you, Tim ferris is awesome at what he does, but he's a complete phoney. It's not so much the IM stuff, yeah maybe he got lucky with adwords. It's all the case studies in his books man, makes me sick,I'm from a scientific background myself and the shit he spouts in four hour body is fucking DANGEROUS. Reps till failure etc, sure u can make big muscle growth but you can also tear your muscles and ligaments to pieces . Do you really want to sacrifice your body by smashing yourself full of supplement etc. Yeah of course, he put's in the odd disclaimer, but the majority of people reading this shit will skip over that in the hope that they will look like fucking arnie in 4 weeks and end up damaging their bodies. Also, re 4HWW, the IM is simple, it's like a really persuiasive self help book, yeah it's incredibly motivational but it's a complete distortion of the truth. For all the guys saying this guy's a legend etc why not spend some time reading about real legends who actually speak the truth then you might learn something. Speak to some REAL business men and women, some REAL scientists and you'll soon realise that this is absolute bollocks. Sorry to destroy your 4HWW mentality but reality is tough and mock me how you will but you'll soon realise that he is probably reading this thread and laughing. At the suckers (myself inculded) that bought into this bullshit

I don't get why these guys are so mad. He has data to support everything he did whether it's in regard to 4HWW or 4HB.

And as far as him "lying" or making it sound too easy; had he posted exactly how much work it is, and how some people aren't going to succeed, that would have stopped a ton of people from trying. Taking action is the first step, and with the "salesy" talk, he got people to take action. Obviously, not everyone is going to make 40k /m, some people will change their lifestyle completely.

When was the book written, 2007? Think of how many people have made info products in exactly the way he described and made a lot of money. Tons. If someone's content is crap, then they don't deserve the sales. The exact same method can't be applied in 2011, but with a few slight tweaks, the majority remains relevant.

And all your "friends who have been in martial arts their whole life who say those physical changes aren't possible in that short of time.." Really? Is that the argument? Just because some random guy you met 10 years ago has been working his whole life at the "dojo" downtown, doesn't make him an expert. Tim Ferriss has data to support everything. Exact diet journals, work out logs, and he tracks tons of other factors like the changing circumference of body parts, glucose levels, fat percentages, blood tests, and like 50 other things.

That's like me showing you my Paypal account, all the transactions, and even giving you numbers of my clients to call; and then you telling me what I'm doing doesn't work. There's way too much evidence to support it.

He heavily emphasizes Pareto's Law (the 80/20 rule), especially in 4HB. It's not always 80/20, sometimes it's 90/10, 95/5. or 99/1. That minimum effective dose is what counts. Doing the least amount to yield the greatest results.

He's gotten tons of people motivated and going out and taking action. Granted marketing helped him spread quickly, but the actual content is what kept it going. Instead of trying to copy his methods, or bash the book and the guy; why not try and take the ideas and understand the mindset that helped him become successful. Maybe it will help you out, and get you out doing something; so you don't need to sit behind your computer, and bash a guy you'll never meet on a forum he'll never read.

"Followed it to the letter", I've read his book once, and skimmed over it multiple times, and I'm pretty sure he explicitly states that this isn't something to be taken as an exact blueprint.

Regardless, I too got a lot out of the book. More in concept then anything else, but it was definitely worth the 8.99 I paid several times over.

Mungus @ you moron ... lets see how far your attitude will take you compared to the attitude of people that embrace the messages in a book like 4HWW.

You say his stuff dont work, but there are people that have posted in this thread that have said they have found immense success and free time and $$$ because of the book and you still say that it does not work... coz u failed at it... do you think you could be the problem and not the book.

Now go back trolling at DP where you belong.

There are literally millions of people saying the lord Jesus Christ gave them money, or the strength to leave drugs, or almost anything you would think of. And you can apply that to any god, myth or superstition that has ever existed.

I don't doubt that 4HWW could be an inspiration for some people. Of course it can! As "Love thy neighbor as thyself" could be to others. But that doesn't mean that:
1.- People who are already good to their fellow human beings are gonna benefit from that (I didn't, and the FHWW didn't give me anything new... well, except for the lies and unsustained claims).
2.- Because it is a lie, some people aren't gonna get actually HURT.

You see here the same reaction as you can see with religion:
    - it doesn't matter he is lying, you gotta understand the message
    - you $%&¬$·&
    - it worked for me, I was "bad" and now I'm "good"
    - You are doing something wrong. It's you, not our belief system

This discusion has no end. But I believe (on a personal level) that understanding of racional thinking and skepticism is gonna keep growing in the world. Some day, one guy is gonna be checking Internet archives, see this conversation an say: "LOL. Our grand-grand-parents were so dumb".

99lives @ I suggest you leave religion out of your thesis, less you want to get banned.

Am not interested in arguing with you guys.

You clearly have your mind made up and there is no changing that. Some people are just think.

Mungus seems to be the kind of idiot that would go and pay $50K in tuition fees and spend 4 year to study a subject... lets say law. Then after the 4 years are done he just passes the bar and spend the next 2 years looking for a job, but does not get one. SO he goes back to the college and sues them coz they scammed him, even though others did the same course and got a good job from it.

    Just a moron!

I am calling BS on this one! What a crock of shit!

If you search Google, you are gonna find some posts from people who have work with him, telling that he doesn't work 4 hours a week. He works A LOT.

Great comment. I even gave you thanks for this contribution. 99.999% of all these guys who say they make a shit load of money sitting on their ass is a big fat lie. You have sort through all the crap to find out the truth.

I have done SEO for some of these "self made millionairs" and I can tell you they were all LIARS! Pictures of their luxury cars....laying on beach...huge houses...all Bullshit! Accept this as introductory into IM ---> the good, bad and ugly! And move on.

I think the negative commenters in this thread REALLY need to change their attitudes before even attempting to read much less implement a theory like this.

    Fuckin jokers
