Default CJ and Hostgator

I had 17 hostgator sales disappear from my CJ account. That's $1700 I earned from a white hat site just talking about hostgator. This week poof they're gone so I emailed hostgator about it and here was the dumbass response I got.

Quote:
I am sorry, however we do not award commission for referring yourself as a client.
WTF, I didn't sign up and doubt anybody would signup 17 times themselves. So I contact CJ and they tell me.

Quote:
Dear xxx,

Thank you for your inquiry. You will need to contact the advertiser for more information regarding that matter.

To contact the advertiser, please do so through the “Mail” Tab within the CJ Account Manager. Once there:

• Click on the Compose button.
• Scroll to the advertiser’s name in question.
• Once the message is composed, press the submit key. This will submit your inquiry directly to the advertiser.

We hope this answers your question. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
Commission Junction Client Support
I think I'm done with CJ now.

That is bullshit!

You brought them 17 new customers and they give you nothing! That is some serious bullshit! It just doesn't make sense. Also, what difference does it make if you sign up for the service yourself.

There are a number of large hosts that are notorious for this classic bait and switch behavior. They offer large referral commission for new sign-ups. They make you wait 90 days then reverse the transaction for some BS reason.

If you think about if they actually paid $100 for every $5 per month hosting they would not be in business for long. I have always found greater success with smaller hosts. They usually pay less but at least you will get paid

Those high commission payouts always had me wondering how they were able to do it. I mean $90+ for simple $5 - $10 hosting? It would take about a year for them to get back to break even and if most people are like me I swap hosts a lot.

I stopped working on hosting affiliate programs. Either they don't pay or you have to beg and beg for payment. CJ is OK but those that are paid by the merchants themselves, sometimes, I find myself paid only after a year !

Something about CJ that most people don't care to see. If you are mostly white-hat, you have less than 5% charge-back or other referral payment issue, and you try to help other CJ publishers. A simple letter stating the facts with a simple reminder that you'll walk works wonders.

good solid publishers that are mostly white-hat are hard to find, and since it's steady revenue for them, the risk-reward profile is in your favor of getting paid ( they know that white-hat sites generally have consistent transaction volume and that's worth a lot to them )

somethings about small claims court that you need to know. Even if the other party does not show up. You still have to validate your claim.

In reviewing the CJ tos and the host gator TOS, it might say that you have to follow certain steps in order to file
