I have two different email programs that have built-in proxy support. The proxies I scraped didn't work. But someone gave me a few to test that worked fine. He didn't seem to really know specifically what criteria were needed for them to work. So I'm asking...?

    Anyone?

The proxies that you are using to scrape are likely HTTP proxies. These will not work for sending email.

You need SOCKS proxies with port 25 open to send mail.

So what software can I use to recognize and scrape socks proxies that will work?

Proxyfire (not proxyfirewall) has a section specifically for testing mail proxies. It's a bit overwhelming if you're unfamiliar with proxy programs and the like, but give it a shot.

    Thanks, apekillape.

I'm not really familiar with the ins and outs of proxies (obviously). I did look at Proxyfire and had no idea what to do with it. However, it sounds like what I need to be using so I'll give it more attention when I get some time.

This morning I scraped a bunch of proxies and loaded them up in Charon (using your instructions). I checked them and sorted the socks ones, and some seem to be working. Great step-by-step instructions in that thread! Thx for that too.

Ya, proxyfire is daunting as hell. I haven't used it in a while, but off the top of my head what you want to do is load your proxies in and uncheck all the proxy checking boxes in the first tab except the one that says it's for mailing. I think it's the furthest one to the right?

There's a video or two on the proxyfire site/forum to show you how to use it, just ignore all the other parts except for loading in the list and the actual checking process.

    Good luck, haha.

Ah, I'll check out the vids. I tried unchecking them except the SMTP one but it seemed to still run them all anyway, lol, so I figured I was doing it wrong. Plus I loaded like 100 and only one came back good.

Load a couple thousand, it's always gonna be that way unless you purchase private proxies.

Default Re: What kind of proxies do I need for SMTP mailing?

    apekillape,

I just got ProxyFire based on the recommendation of a colleague today. It was only overwhelming until I watched the English video. It was nice for Lin to do that. Got me acclimated pretty quickly.

However - there are a few items to the software that go left unexplained and I'm trying to figure out.

So Mailer King will allow you to send SMTP emails THROUGH the SOCKS5 SMTP enabled Proxies. I've been testing all day and here's the deal:

ProxyFire will find working Proxies. No prob. I select the SMTP/E-Mail box to watch the Proxies that are 'SMTP' enabled get added to the list. I even see the mail server listed meaning that it truly is (in theory anyway) making a connection to the end mail sever (which ProxyFire has defaulted to maila.microsoft.com.)

Then I trim and de-dup the newly found 'SMTP' SOCKS5 proxies and paste them over to my Mailer King. I have 60 accounts (30 each unique across two different domains) hosted through Godaddy. I have each account log in with a max sending rate/hour of 1 email/hour. I watch the mail log and see a LOT of errors:

    Socks server did not respond
    Host unreachable
Socket Error # 10061 Connection Refused
    Error:could not connect to account
    Connection closed gracefully

Of course the one I love to see is: Email sent to 1 address.

Then of course I see the emails come through my test account.

But the big concern is MOST of the SMTP Socks5 Proxies (majority of the verifications) seem to be BOGUS.

Is there not a way to truly verify an SMTP Socks5 proxy will truly relay email through the SMTP call?

I notice the Option to change SMTP Checks from Check on connect to mail server to Check on mail deliver. But every time I select the 'on mail deliver' then NOTHING shows up in the SMTP/E-Mail list check after a filter run.

I have to imagine that option to Check on mail deliver is in ProxyFire JUST for me and this scenario - but it don't work.

Can you give me any pointers or clarification. Do you see anything wrong in my set up with what I'm doing so far?

Ultimately - how can I truly verify SMTP Socks5 will in fact relay mail and have that tested and verified BEFORE any kind of sending?

    Thanks MUCH!

SMTP proxies are specialized Mail Transfer Agents (MTAs) that, similar to other types of proxy servers, pass SMTP sessions through to other MTAs without using the store-and-forward approach of a typical MTA. When an SMTP proxy receives a connection, it initiates another SMTP session to a destination MTA. Any errors or status information from the destination MTA will be passed back to the sending MTA through the proxy

    Types of SMTP Proxies
SMTP proxies come in a few fundamental flavors:
    * Synchronous - each SMTP client connection causes the proxy to establish a single connection with a downstream mail server. See the open source [1] project for an example of a simplex SMTP proxy.
    * Multiplexing - the proxy establishes downstream connections only as needed; this is done to protect the downstream mail server from excessive connection concurrency.
    * Transparent - the proxy is inserted into the network between clients and servers and masquerades itself in such a way that the client and server believe they are talking directly to each other, even though there is a proxy in the middle. The commercial "MailChannels Outbound" product from MailChannels implements a transparent proxy[2]. Policy-based routing may be used to route SMTP traffic through a transparent SMTP proxy.

    Thanks Proxygo...

So on the File Guru site - there are quite a few programs. Which do you recommend?

What about this one - any good?

Also - that google link reference you gave me just went to a Google home page for UK and that's all. Was it supposed to be search results?

    Proxygo,

Thanks for the find of Proxies.

I feel like maybe I'm really slow this morning - but that Google link brings me to nothing but a Google Home page. No search results. Am I missing something?

And what do you think about that Socks Proxy Checker? Do you recommend it? Just happened to be the first one on the list at File Guru (your link) and also happens to be the one I searched for HOURS last night and seemed to be the most impressive. Just got a response back from the developer that in fact the software will confirm TRUE SMTP relay proxies (ones that will actually send) - but that they could also be on a blacklist which would prevent the proxy from working. So how to get past that next level of blacklist checking?

    Thanks again!

I clicked the Google link several times - this is where it's taking me:

    http://www.google.co.uk/

That's it - no search criteria entered?!

And as for 'throwing proxies in' - throw them into where? The Socks Proxy Checker (as you seem to be against ProxyFire)?

    Thanks again.

Doc. WHy not just pay the money and buy mail enabled socks5, tested and guaranteed. Seems like it would save time and money in the short and long run. Also, question. All you Godaddy accounts, any trouble with them? We stopped using godaddy long ago as bulk friendly they are not! just wondering. Netfirms we use now, they are cheaper and have privacy included not extra? Just wondering.

WOW! Thanks for the Netfirms recommendation. So let me ask - do you know how many relays per day each email account is allowed with Netfirms? (Is it like Godaddy with 250 SMTP relays/day/EACH email account?)

Also - I don't really need the proxies for mailing. I was looking to use them for email address verification. But it would appear I may not need that anymore. But it is a good idea.

I'm thinking of hiring a developer that would leech all the proxy sites, scrub the proxies for valid Socks5 SMTP, and enter them ALL into a list and rotate round and round the proxies while verifying emails at a good speed and avoiding 'blocks' or 'soft fails' from the ISP recipients because they don't see the exact same proxy checking for valid users.

Then export the results into good/bad lists - and possibly run through the bad lists 3-5 times just to verify that they truly are bad.

It really should be relatively simple to do - just think of all the noobs on here (myself included at one very short time ago) that would buy into this kind of verifying. Fast, accurate, reliable, effective!

Hey - if you make it because of this idea - don't forget to give me free copy and free resell rights!

Good idea. Be warned - It's very tough to find the proxy providers around to subscribe for SMTP proxies because the mailing SMTP proxies are very rare to find. Only few proxy providers, including proxylist.co has them.

docdoc, the search criteria is: smtp proxy tester

About the blacklist check - you can use Charon's "Blacklist Scanner", but most servers are outdated, so click "Configure Servers" and change them. Here are listed few such servers, test them and use in Charon the best of them:

    dnsbl(d0t)info/dnsbl-database-check(d0t)php

    P. S. I have no rights to post links, but I believe this link is not a spam

Thanks zlobar. Ultimately - I've discovered what I needed. Almost NO ONE offers or can guarantee any proxy that is SMTP deliverable. I have some ideas on how one could do this - but at the end of the day...I currently no longer need them. So it wasn't really a wasted journey - I learned about proxies...and I wanted to know about them anyway.

    Thanks for the dnsbl link.
