Ok so it's safe to say that I'm overwhelmed when it comes to proxies. I've read a bunch of information including all the stickies on proxies and continue to become even more confused.
What I could seriously use is some type of basic proxy guide for
SEO research. I have a number of questions...
What makes a good proxy? How does one spot a bad proxy exactly?
Good proxies pass the Google test (not banned by google) and are relatively fast. Private proxies are the best because public proxies die really fast since many people are using them.
What's VPS? Are they better than normal proxies?
If you are looking into proxies search for private proxies. VPS is a form of hosting and doesn't really relate. People run scrapebox on VPS since it's like running it on a computer in the cloud, but once again, has nothign to do with proxy
What's an elite proxy?
Elite proxies are anonymous. Others are transparent so people can still see the original IP address (sorta defeats the whole purpose).
What does scraping proxies mean exactly? When should I scrape proxies? I
hear this term when Scrapebox is discussed often, why?
Scrapebox doesn't really scrape proxies, but rather checks them. This applies if you choose to go with public proxies (though I guess you can with custom footprints?). You first need a proxy harvester to collect all the proxies posted on forums/websites/any place else daily, then you use scrapebox to check if these proxies pass the Google test (if you plan to use Google) and if they are still alive.
How good are private proxies, when should one use private proxies?
I haven't used private proxies myself yet, but the success rate is a lot higher. In general you scrape (harvest links, comments, etc) using public proxies and post using private ones.
How many private proxies would I need if I was to use SEnukeX and
Scrapebox?
It depends how intensely you plan to use both software, how many connections you plan to run with, and other variables. That said, I still wouldn't know since I've never used private proxies
I would appreciate the information and insight immensely! Thanks!
