Do you have to be techy to use a VPS?
I was just going to use a VPS to get online and create another adwords account but when I typed in VPS it all looked so techy
Once you log in to the VPS is it easy to get online or do you have to be a freakn engineer?

Re: Do you have to be techy to use a VPS?
Hello,
It depends on the type of VPS you get. They come as managed or un-managed. Plus it also depends whether you get it with a control panel or not ( cPanel , Plesk etc ).
If you are not a technical person and just want a VPS for hosting purposes etc. Get a managed one with cPanel/WHM.
Whenever I purchase a managed VPS I prefer LiquidWeb and Servint. They are reputable companies with good pro-active management.

Nooo... it's just like using a extra computer, like using a extra laptop with windows xp installed etc.. thats all it is.

Re: Do you have to be techy to use a VPS?
One thing I forgot, also depends if you want Windows or Linux. If you want a Windows VPS and know how to work around Windows which most people do, get an unmanaged VPS then. You will access your VPS using RDP and will be just like your own laptop/PC as starfusion mentioned above.

Re: Do you have to be techy to use a VPS?
Yeah.. It's just a separate computer that you control remotely using your own keyboard, mouse and monitors.
Just go Start->Programs->Accessories->Remote Desktop Connection
(If you have multiple monitors, click Options, go to Display and check "Use all my monitors for the remote session.)
Then just connect and use the username/password for your VPS. You log in and it's usually just a Windows Server desktop, get online in Internet Explorer and install all your favorite SEO programs to free up your local resources (the entire reason to use Windows VPS.)

Re: Do you have to be techy to use a VPS?
As this is in the proxy section I am guessing you want to hop through the VPS to hide your true IP address.
If you can SSH, then you can create a SSH tunnel without a problem - do a search as there are a few tutorials on how to do it on here.

Re: Do you have to be techy to use a VPS?
If you go for linux you need to know how to use some commands. If you go for windows it's easier if you only want it for perosnal use, install some software that you are currently using etc.

Not really. You just have to know how to use a computer. The VPS company will give you login details.
This space is currently for sale. PM me for more information.

Re: Do you have to be techy to use a VPS?
You'll need to be able to use the linux command shell. If this is something you don't have any experience with, see if you can get windows installed. Then you can access your VPS remotely and use it just like you would your home windows machine.

Re: Do you have to be techy to use a VPS?
If you've used a shared hosting account and accessed it through cPanel or Plesk, the learning curve will be small. You'll have to do a few things to the server, but a decent hosting company will provide that checklist for you, or maybe even DO IT for you.
I've been using jaguarpc.com for my VPS for a couple of years now. Heard about them off either this forum or a webmaster forum. Very pleased. Always helpful, very reasonable pricing ($25/month). I was in the exact same position as you. It's a little scary at first because you don't want to blow anything up, but a good support team will walk you through it. You'll be very comfortable in a very short period of time. Good luck.

Re: Do you have to be techy to use a VPS?
Will a Windows VPS perform equivalently to a Linux one, assuming the same specs?
