can't browse firefox, chrome and ie but i can open skype, meaning there is an internet connection.

You might have dead proxies set in your browser settings. For Internet Explorer/Chrome: have you tried opening the control panel -> internet options -> connections -> LAN/proxy settings and seeing if a proxy is enabled?
