Default Tor vs private proxy service for anonymous browsing

I am trying to find out how to achieve a high level of anonymity for a part of my web browsing. I am happy to pay for a good service. I have been using OperaTor for this purpose so far. I don't need superfast connection when I use this anonymous mode and the data size/month is quite small.

Do you think Tor or a paid highly anonymous proxy server (or a combination of these) is better for this purpose? Is there a way to connect to tor over a private proxy? I know of tor-proxy.net for this purpose but I'd like to use my own proxy.

    My concerns are:
[With Tor] Tor network exit nodes could log snoop traffic. A bit on the slow side.
[With proxy] Not decentralized. Government could ask for connection logs. For instance upon recommendation by some members on this forum I checked proxybonanza.com and they told me this:
We do log connections and keep 30 days logs. We use them to count
traffic (we don't analyze the logs in any other way). We will disclose
the logs if we're required by law do to so. Happened only once so far
    since April 2008.
What other advantages/disadvantages could you think of?

Also when it comes to anonymous/secure email, what do you recommend?

    Thanks.

Ok, after a bit more of reading the forums I am back

I believe for my purposes it's best the run tor (OperaTor in specific) over a socksification program (ProxyCap,Widecap,...). Then I believe the exit node snooping would be less of a problem because the exit node would record the proxy's ip. I don't transmit passwords or sensitive info anyway. Is this the case?

For this purpuse I know proxyfirewall is recommended but it says Vista is not supported. I am running Server 2008 x64. What other software would you recommend ?

Also I decided not to use a paid/private proxy service. The reason is it creates another trail back to me. It might also increase the level of scrutiny over me if the proxy provider is being watched by governments. I would prefer proxies that disappear frequently.

let me know what you think.

If you really need to hide something, rent a vpn using an anonymous payment source (throwaway paypal will do just fine) and tunnel through it. Otherwise you might as well keep it up with Tor.

doesnt work, they can seize your records from the company ... and even if the company doesnt give it to them they can get it from the ISP

short of rooting your own boxes the best bet is to grab a host that has firm delete rules on there logs, and is also in a country that your country isnt friends with ... like north korea .. you get the idea

then tunnel into there and then start your chain

on a side note, prepaid credit cards work wonders and if they come auto filled with money "unlike green dot" you dont need a social ... just fake name generator yourself an alias use that ... do the same with a new paypal account

i should also mention all you need to do is a get a host that has ssh ... vpn will work also
