Use proxies and hide email headers?

I was wondering what is a good way to use a proxy or hide my ip and info for sending and receiving messages through my gmail account? I am not doing anything crazy or spamming, but I will like to remain anonymous when sending some messages out to different people.

I use FF, and I would like something that is free and effective, any suggestions guys?
