Default Will proxies hide my ip when downloading torrents

    Hi,

I am newbie (first post) on the proxiestuff, who learned a lot from the tutorials from apekillape (the sticky ones), but I still have a question, so I hope someone can help me.

Will using socks proxies hide my ip when I download torrents. I want to download some softwaretorrents, but I want to be completely sure they can't see that I downloaded the software.....

    Have a nice evening

It will from what I seen/heard.. I don't have the option to use a proxy in my torrent downloader.. If you have the same problem, try checking out proxyfirewall.. Just find a decent proxy with good kbs download speed and run it through that firewall.. You can run each individual program under a proxy if you wanted.. Also check out peerguardian as well.. Can't never be too safe.

Both of the bittorrent apps I use have the options of using socks proxies. It should be in the settings/preferences/whatever under the connections tab. I've never heard of a need to hide your identity on a torrent tracker. I could be wrong but once you're using the tracker to connect to seeds and peers you're just a number and anonymous already. Now as for the torrent site itself like minin0va or pirate3bay, you might want an http proxy if for some reason you can't access the site or if someone monitors your network.

yeah.. u should use peerguardian to block those annoying anti-p2p morons from spying, before downloading torrents or files with p2p clients.

'...Yes, but it might slow your download down.

Before commencing the download, check the proxy you have chosen to use is high anonymity. Here's a proxy checker':

    Thanks for the info

Good to hear it will hide my ip when downloading torrents...feels more safe this way

I learned about proxyfirewall from the sticky tutorials in this proxiesection written by apekillape...I can recommend them to every beginner in this area

I use peerguardian, but thanks anyway
But I don't have the feeling it really protect me from spying me because they can use as many ip's as they want to spy and not all of them are known in peerguardian. It will probably help a bit, but not completely.....but hey I am a noob at this stuff so I could be completely wrong here......hope apekillape can help me out here

That's exactly what I meant, ya. Was too tired to type it all out, haha.

Running peerguardian means you have something to hide. How hard is it for the Federalis to just write that user down and then switch IPs for investigating? The answer: Not very.

You have every right to be secure.. Yeah though, not sure how they could detect you running it..

There are flaws in it, but it has to do with the ip-ranges.. Can still get picked off even with their daily update list.. I got canned from Cox cable for downloading a video torrent.. The video from an HBO series and I have about 7 different ip-ranges from HBO..

Wish I knew the pros and cons of it.. What it can and cannot do.. It does however, make a damn good firewall if you need a specific ip blocked .
