I would recommend that you search BHW for site builder elite. It has a few footprints you will want to remove, but the clickthrough on those sites are pretty decent

Different formats work for different people.
I wouldn't recommend loading up on the adsense ads, because people just tend to ignore the ads completely.
Remember if 10000 other people are doing it, you probably need to create your own unique approach.
The key is making the ads blend with the content.
