Facebook Ads vs PPV
After 4 days of testing, I'm now getting about
average $0.02 per clicks on facebook ads.
Comparable to PPV in terms of price, but PPV
is per view while FBads is clicks from interested
party.
I ran a very tight keyword campaign in FB.
Started of with pay per clicks and once I trim the
keywords to make it targeted I changed to CPM.
In PPC it was average $0.24 per clicks.
Have not monitize it yet since I was only testing
FBads. The clicks are all going to a fan page.
I was thinking of setting up FBML and placing
opt-in email and then market stuff through emails.
Looks like 2010 is going to be the year that I will
make FBads square off against PPV

Re: Facebook Ads vs PPV
FB ads (especially when marketing a group) has a number of drawbacks. For one, FB is getting ban happy on groups that try to sell to their members (or promote CPA or whatever). It would piss me off to no end to spend money building up a FB group only to have one of their dumbass mods kill the group.
Also, PPV may not be 'solicitated' but with careful targetting the visitors are DEFINATELY interested. If you know what a user is looking at online, you know what they are interested in unless they somehow ended up on the page accidentally (which, lets be honest, rarely happens with the more popular sites you would want to target anyways).
PPV also gives you way more flexibility in your creatives (simply because they are huge..).
Not saying your FB campaign isn't a winner, just saying that PPV could be a nice compliment to it.

Re: Facebook Ads vs PPV
Thanks for the heads up about the banning... I didn't
realize that they are proactive about that now.
Nonetheless, if based on the idea of marketing through
opt-in emails via Static FBML instead of going through
the fan pages or groups, our accounts will be safe.
The best part about FBads is the viral effect... spend a bit
and get a bit more traffic for free
I still do not know which one is better because I have yet
to properly test both PPV and FBads.
I agree with what you said about PPV being a nice compliment
to FBads.
I hope both do well, because if you learn something from
the Adwords banning going on now it should be never to
put all your traffic hope into one basket :P

I am beginning to wonder if people actually
read post or just the headlines
The techniques involves getting emails through
opt-in set up via Static FBML.
Got nothing to do with direct linking affiliate ads or
promoting whatever the hell you want to promote
on FB itself.
You harvest emails, send them quality articles and
do your promo in the EMAIL... if you promote even
PORN or BEASTIALITY shite in the Opt-In EMAIL,
FB can't do anything about that.

Ok, so yeah, FBads seems like a good and cheap way
to test as alternative traffic source
