So I'll soon have a MNS that has to do with BBQ grills. I bought it from a member on BHW. This will be an adsense site, but i thought of also doing affiliate marketing.

In hindsight, I think this might of been a mistake. Most of the searches for this kind of stuff are between March and October.

Is it worth working on this site in December or should I park it until a month or so before spring?

This will be my start in IM.

I've been addicted to web training videos and now know how to set up a WP site and do some basic SEO.

Should I find a different niche or stick with this?

Well, I would just get a few articles up and do some basic things like submit it to socialadr, imautomator, get a facebook and twitter setup and just kind of work and tweak on it in your free time.

I run many summer only things, and really, during the winter its completely dead.

I say just work on it sparingly because, as it's your first IM adventure, you will want to see immediate rewards. Very important.

As always, in the future, use spyfu.com or google trends to check out the trending before jumping onboard.

I personally would not focus all of your attention to it and go crazy eating up all your time trying to rank it, because you are gonna get "down" about it.

But do it slowly and make everything look natural, backlinks by commenting or gaining a few links per day or per week.

Just my thought, as I have many seasonal niches and know how dead it can be during the offseason....

EDIT: Or, you can expand your niche to include things like "indoor barbecue", "indoor barbaque grilling" etc. Actually that may be something good for you to do, so you will turn your MNS into a full blown, well rounded "barbecue" site.

Also, make some pages or product reviews about electronic barbecues etc and things that people will use in their homes during cold months. Just a thought, to expand.... Is great for SEO too.

Don't forget about barbeque sauces!! In the winter months, people like to cook! How about some barbeque recopies? Just because your domain might say barbacuegrill.com, doesn't mean you cant expand your niche.

If you're doing Adsense I would stick with it because it's still summer in the other half of the world. Hopefully the site will then be nicely positioned for when the northern hemisphere summer rolls around.

If you were going to do affiliate sales to the US market (eg. Amazon) then I would still work on it now, but don't expect much SE traffic or sales until next summer.

For SE sites it's always a good idea to get stuff moving as early as possible and then build links and content slowly and steadily - time / age is a huge factor in the SEs.

Well, keep it in your daily routine. But, I know how defeating it can be for someone doing a new project to get down, so that's the reason I wouldn't focus 100% on it. Maybe 40% You don't want to push it 100% 2 months before prime season, as this will "look" bad to the SE's.

Remember, JUST my opinion.

Like I said, it might be worth investigating some of the other niche Ideas I had for the site. I'm sure a lot of people do barbecue things in winter time.

You might find a hot winter time barbeque niche, Investigate further. Maybe people are looking for DEALS on barbeque stuff in the off season?

There's no reason why you shouldn't work on this site. You're just starting out and learning what works and what doesn't. If you start working on this site now, come summer, you'll have some pretty good rankings. Also, you can work on other sites at the same time. There's no reason to rely on just one.

I'm saying this because when I started I made the mistake of focusing on one site and had it pandalized in February and losing all my traffic for three months. Those were some pretty rough times...you know checking google analytics everyday and seeing a big fat zero everyday sucks huge balls.

Make 3-5 MNS' and work on them everyday. That's what I would do if I were you, anyway.

whether it's clothes or gadgets, lots of people shop for items in the opposite season because they expect to find better deals

while business may not be as big as it could be otherwise, the conversion rates could be higher if done right
