Stop selling yourself short on recurring income..
First off, I've been drinking. Ok...
Recently, I've noticed a lot of fliggas (offline n*ggas) saying they charge $x,xxx for x amount of months for the initial startup/loading phase and then reduce the price to $xxx per month for maintenance. What I have to say to you gentlemen is:
STOP SELLING YOURSELF SHORT
These fools NEED you. Why would you appease to them and lower the cost because of "maintenance"? WHAT THE FUCK do they know of your work? If you charge $x,xxx for the first month, you need to charge $x,xxx for EVERY month. Letting these business owners "come up" off of some petty $$ is ridiculous. You need to take vacations to Viet Nam, Brazil, Budapest, Thailand, and Costa Rica. Unless these clients can add an inch or two to your dick, don't give them the deal of a lifetime. The first month of service should be the same as every other month of service. And if you change your price, you BEST be RAISING it instead of DROPPING it. Like, once you get them to position x in Google, raise the price to $x,xxx/monthly.
If you don't agree with me, you're dumb. And if you have a girlfriend who knows you drop the price after x amount of months, she's dumb too. If you're this dumb, you probably allow her to mooch off of you without her sucking your dick as much as you need her to.
Stop being a beta phaggot. Rise like the blood pressure of a "black" woman eating pork every day of her life. Be an alpha male and get what you DESERVE... $$$
Disclaimer: If you are selling yourself short, it's your own fault. Money Talks.
P.S. Watch Glengarry Glen Ross. Alec Baldwin said in that flick, "A.B.C. Always Be Closing". Constantly scale up and up. You need paper to blow so you can spit game to these hoes.
I apologize to the Caucasians for my use of slang, most notably the word, "nigga". I know how uncomfortable you guys get reading/hearing it hahaha. I also apologize for my lack of the use of exclamation points. I feel a nigga's (my) IQ is too high to need such a thing to get the point across.
In all seriousness, though: Put yourself first. Fuck these people who say you're too expensive. They're usually the biggest pains in the ass as clients.

I would have to say that although the point may be valid, this is one of the most obnoxious and belligerent posts I have ever seen.

Re: Stop selling yourself short on recurring income..
Setup fees are almost always overall more expensive, which is natural if there's a lot of labor that goes into the initial setup.
I disagree with you, you're going to have clients arguing against a high monthly retainer if you're doing less than your initial work. It of course depends on the services you are providing, but with something like PPC management for example, the initial stage is relatively labor intensive.
If clients are going to look at your fees and the fees of any of your competitors in a space, you won't get very many clients if you can't justify your higher fee. I think what's most important is charging a fee that maintains a satisfying return after you pay your workforce - something that is scalable.
Since you're in here dispensing advice and information, how much money do you make per month from client services?

Re: Stop selling yourself short on recurring income..
Hey don't be to harsh to the guy, actually he is absolutely right about this:
Put yourself first. Fuck these people who say you're too expensive.
They're usually the biggest pains in the ass as clients.
This is correct. And I must say in business, offline or online, whenever I've sold my services cheap I've been treated that way, whenever I said high price, I've been treated classy and expensive...
There is truth in that...
Think about it simply, there are ton's of threads about reselling Fiverr services... When some guy buys Fiverr service he feels like crap for paying $5 for like 20 PR links, when he pays $35 at reseller he will appreciate much more that guy then the fiverr guy who actually did the job.
Don't say it's not like that, because it is.

You know the deal. It's called "perceived value".

I charge $750 to $1500 for retainer/set-up fees PLUS anywhere from $1800 to $3200 for the first month and every month afterwards, unless I raise the price once I get them to position #1. So I get anywhere from $2550 to $4700 UP FRONT.
Don't play yourself, padawan.

Re: Stop selling yourself short on recurring income..
OP may not be the most eloquent but he is spot on.
So many threads of guys busting ass to get a client on to charge $200-$300 p month for seo and then the client breaks your balls all month.
Even as a total rookie to SEO my cheapest clients were $1250/p month and even THAT was cheap IMO compared to what they could earn. Its not about price, its about VALUE. If you can really rank them they will make WAY more that the measly couple thousand you are charging them a month, depending on the niche of course.

Re: Stop selling yourself short on recurring income..
Totally agree with OP. The clients we give a discount to, or for some reason decide to give a good price are always the biggest assholes to work for. One of my colleagues took on an SEO client for £200/mo and was working a good solid 20 hours a month on the site and got pissed all over and dragged up and down every month for the duration.
(as a note, they left as it was too expensive and then went with someone who said they'd do their SEO for $95/mo. Now they're deindexed)
