Question How much to Charge for Website Designing for a Local Business?

First of all let me tell you that I know nothing about hard core web designing. The way I thought to proceed was to use the readymade templates from Themeforest or Elegant themes and sell it to them with

    I had few questions.

    1) How much should I charge them for the above additions(Please note I am targetting small businesses like Pet shops, Saloons etc)
    2) Should I host their website on my shared hosting or should I charge them monthly fees on reseller hosting
    3) How much should I charge for the content, Logo, banner?

Great questions, it is all about your market, how much you want/need to make, do you do all the work yourself, are you part time or full time, etc. My answers assume you are trying to get started and build up some clients and that you are in the U.S.

    1) How much should I charge them for the above additions(Please note I am targetting small businesses like Pet shops, Saloons etc)

$499 minimum with one year of hosting for a theme site that you can do fairly quickly and give the customer a nice web presence. After you are established, you can charge $2500-3500 for a really nice semi-custom site built on a theme. I always tell my clients that I use WP and that their site will be based on a theme that is perfect for their site. As you get more clients and work you can easily raise your price based on demand.

    2) Should I host their website on my shared hosting or should I charge them monthly fees on reseller hosting
I would charge a reasonable annual hosting fee and use someone like Hostmonster. About $80/yr would host plenty of WP sites with e-mails. Starting out, maybe $89-$99 annually to the client. Include this in the initial web design price and let them know, itemize it on the proposal "Includes 1 Year Hosting and XX e-mails".

    3) How much should I charge for the content, Logo, banner?
These too really depend on your present needs and time. You cannot be too cheap because people will not take you serious and you cannot charge too much because of your target client. A nice simple logo for a small business would be $199-$399.

Banners - charge based on an hourly rate of $XX. and be fair to your clients. Word of mouth referrals will help you get your feet on the ground.

Content - The client needs to supply as much content as possible. You will always wait on them too so be sure and have a method for them to submit content to you. If you have to write content, charge a reasonable hourly rate.

Also, always get a 30-50% deposit BEFORE you do anything!!! Get another % at a certain milestone and the balance upon delivery.

Have a VERY good contract that explains exactly what is expected from the client and what they can expect from you - timelines, milestones, content requirements, etc.

And last but not least, give the customer what they want. If they want something that you persoanlly don't like but they love it, explain your viewpoint without criticizing theirs. If they are adament about a certain look, give it to them. I lost several clients when I started because I tried to give them what looked good more than what they wanted.

    @svracer,
    Nicely done there bro, repped.

Bout the only thing I'm going to add is get your outsourcers lined up and priced out so you're ready to sub the work out that you're not going to do yourself. Like if someone want a jazzy eye candy website, I'm going to get some graphics designer type to do the work and charge the client with a markup.
