Am I heading for trouble selling websites to small business owners created with Xsitepro?
If I sell a website to a business owner that I've created with Xsitepro and somewhere down the line we part ways and he wants the source code since he's already paid me for his site, is there going to be any problems for me?
I'm not going to have any problem handing over the xsite code but once he has it he can't do squat to his site unless he has the xsite software which cost $200. Unlike sites created with free software such as wordpress or html which can be edited by just about anybody.

Honestly, that depends on what the agreement between you and him looks like. If there is nothing specified as to what you need to use, or what they expect from you specifically, then I don't see any issues. Even if it says that you are to give them all source code but isn't specific as to what they want you to use, what could they claim you didn't provide to them?

So if neither party brings up the question of what was used to built the site then I'm in the clear.

Make sure that's what you agree on. His payment is to use the website. Not own it.
This got me out of trouble once before when a client tried to screw me for an ecommerce site (which I sell for £1000s). I did a working sample, which was paid for at a sample rate (1/4 of the price) - turns out he has some punk who was going to steal the site the minute it was on their server (yeah right) and was working.
Arsehole tried to sue me too. Claimed he owned the sample (which was a fully functioning shopping cart of course).
Thanks for the lead on Saas, I'll look into it.

I have Xsitepro and I'm pretty sure it exports in html. You could just download all the html files from the site via FTP and hand that over to the owner.
