2 Unemployed 22 Year Olds - Offline Journal (Pics)
Hey Guys,
First off I graduated University and can't find a job, so I will be doing a post graduate degree in September. I have decided until then to attempt an effort at sending out packets following the exact method found in the "Make 5k a month thread"
Personally I'd be more then satisfied with $2000 a month
As an added twist though, I will be targeting ONLY business' without websites. I will be offering complete website design+Google placement to business in my area.
My friend will take care of the entire design component - He is fully capable of designing a good looking website so I am not worried about that part...
I will take care of the Google placement component
My Experience
I have 2 clickbank products that are extremely unique (no competition) that bring in about $40-$50 a week right now. So I have some knowledge of selling and IM and am not a complete noob in this sense.
I am a complete NOOB in the google placement biz and will be using this thread as my primary resource on ranking business.
http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackha...resources.html
I made a website in the past for a pizza company in 2009 for $300 + $65 a year to maintain. It currently places "C" on google for my city when you type in "Pizza in (my city). I did absolutely nothing to get it there.
February 2nd 2012
We will be sending out 5 Packets that look like this - Simple Envelope

Here is the contents

Left Page - Simple write up explaining how they can't be found on Google + their AD from newspaper and asking if they are pleased with their newspaper ad results
Center Page - Printout of Google search results for "business Niche in My CITY" - proving they are no where to be found
Right Page - Keyword tool showing how many people search for their business niche in the city.
Other Important Info
-We made 5 packets today
-All ads from newspaper
The business' we are contacting are
1) Jewelry Store
2) Pizza Place
3) Dog grooming place
4) Pharmacy
5) Hair Salon
We decided to try different niches just to test the water
Total Cost So far: About $6 lol
Population of My City: Approx 150,000
What I plan on Charging: Because the Niches are so different I can't say yet. I can't charge a Jewelery store and a pizza place the same I feel.
Please ask any questions you would like and offer any advice! I am sure I will need help when it comes to Google placement so I am glad to answer any questions!
I hope this thread is a learning tool for others and me too since I am learning this too.
I am hoping by Wednesday we get our first response. I will attempt to make 2-3 more packs by Wednesday.
I will check this thread Daily and make all my response in green text so that my responses are easy to find ( Make it easier if the thread gets big)

showing up on map/places is only one opportunity. if they aren't showing up on page 1 and specifically, in the "7 box".. then you have a full opportunity to pitch them google places SEO services. That's what I'm doing with my offline stuff. At least 1 aspect of it.

We do have a very simple clean website setup. It's not done yet though, it will be finished tomorrow. We included both a phone number and an email in the letter but also have the web address but I specifically say "please give us a call blah blah"

Surprisingly a lot of business in my area advertise in newspapers but don't have a website! I think it's because I live in a smaller/mid size city. I bet if I live in Toronto it would be way harder since business' there know they need a website to compete. I found a Jewler that took out a half page Ad (This costs hundreds of dollars) yet he doesn't even have a website!
Also I googled the exact name of the business and my city to determine if they had a site like
"JENNY'S CREATIVE HAIR STYLES MY CITY"
All the results were business listing of the business, but no website. And also, if they had a website they would likely have put it on their Advertisement.
Thanks to all those who have wished me luck as well. I didn't quote every comment just to keep the thread less cluttered.
PS:
I would recommend going after places where even 1 sales lead could be worth thousands to the business (ex. Jewler).
I will post updates as they happen. Hopefully should have 1 call back atleast by next Wednesday!

Look, i don't google the business name, i google HAIR STYLES in [yourcity]...because this is keyword typical people will typed in...even some business don't have their own website, their business still shows up on different directories on first page, including google places...

Great job on taking action. 90% of the battle is just showing up. The other 10% is to not don't give up.

Re: 2 Unemployed 22 Year Olds - Offline Journal (Pics)
You'd be very surprised how much a pizza store makes. The margins are huge. Their only real cost after equipment fees/rent is cheese. Lots and lots of cheese! I was thinking about charging pizza places less as well but I talked to my buddy and that told me all the deets. I decided I will be charging most business the same price for my services, if not every business.
Good luck with everything!
Hard work. Dedication. Consistency.

Re: 2 Unemployed 22 Year Olds - Offline Journal (Pics)
rep given for showing some initiative and taking action. im liking it that youre sending out the mailers even though your website isnt up yet - that means youre committed whether you want to be or not. too often, people will wait until theyve got everything set up 100% before proceeding.
worst case scenario, you'll get blown out by all 6 prospects, but in the meantime, you will have created your own website - probably a lot faster than of you hadnt sent the mailers out.
as a result, your own website means you and your buddy now have a business you can start promoting, whereas 24 hours earlier, all you had was a concept and maybe another crack at C.O.D. and as good as that game is, it aint real life. THIS is real life and THIS, might just change your life.
im looking forward to seeing what progress you make over the next week or so.
all the best....

Re: 2 Unemployed 22 Year Olds - Offline Journal (Pics)
Good luck guys but I don't agree on charging the same. Imagine a hedge fund manager and pizza store owner going to the mechanic to fix their car... will they get charged differently?
No.. because work is work.

It's not about the work dude, its about what you are making them, what value you are providing them. If you pimp a jewellery store with a new website and solid gplaces listing they could make thousands more each month. Where a pizza store with the same effort might only make a few hundred extra. It's all about the value!
Anyways, well done guys for taking action. I'm sitting in literally the exact same position as you guys right now. Need to take action. I've started a mastermind group with a few other offliners, let me know if you want in, you have proven yourselves worthy.

+rep for taking action. I've just sent out my second round of packets. I have not had any success with the first lot. My first packets were sent to businesses with websites and offered GP promotion. But I think, my prices were too high and businesses where I am are not ready for this yet. I'm in the UK.
But now I am doing exactly as you have. Targeting businesses without websites. I presume Ontario is similar to where I live. We're way behind the US and many businesses don't have websites yet. Amazing but true.

free for 30 days, $50 after. This is great for taking screenshots of your searches and then editing it. You can add arrows, highlights, text box, etc and it just makes things look more professional rather than writing by hand on the print outs if any of you do
Good luck and subscribed.

Nice! I will give that a try - I have photoshop as well and am pretty good in that so I will probably do that in my next round of packs as well.
As for the debate on what to charge, I think that it is definitely important to charge differently depending on the company. But will see how things turn out, I will wait till I get a call back and then post it in this thread

Re: 2 Unemployed 22 Year Olds - Offline Journal (Pics)
I understand where you're coming from with the prices. If possible, charge according to other places they've advertised. If they advertised in the newspaper or phonebook, maybe find prices of those ads and charge accordingly. Because they don't get a special rate to advertise there.

Great idea, I am going to contact my newspaper and ask what they charge, then bring that up in my first meeting

awesome man main thing is you took ACTION!

Re: 2 Unemployed 22 Year Olds - Offline Journal (Pics)
SUGGESTION:
It might be better to add in a projection there. Most businesses plan out a projection in their marketing campaigns and they will likely ask this from you. Prepare it ahead in order not to stutter and give a long pause when being asked.
e.g. 10k views in 6 months etc. conversion rate estimate etc.
-
-
Re: 2 Unemployed 22 Year Olds - Offline Journal (Pics)
Another SUGGESTION:
Add in a comparison..
Research about their costs or the average costs of companies in order to provide data for:
Average costs for newspaper ads/commercials etc. vs average costs for your services
-
-

Wow, I was thinking 5 was a pretty low amount to send for a "for-sure' test, but you sent only 1?
Why would you think that would be enough for a test?

JING is completely free and does pretty much the same thing, I'd go for that rather .. test it out and compare it to what you are already using and see how best it works
