DOnt be afraid to cold call
why is it that people are scared to cold call? DOnt be scared or nervous. These people dont know you they NEED YOU! Pick up the phone and call simple as that. I use to cold call for another type of business and after the first call itll be easier than calling your mom or dad for a ride home from the high school football game LOL . Although I dont cold call anymore , I like to put the business owners back against the wall and give them no option BUT to pay me monthly
Take it easy fellas . If you have any questions feel free to hit me up .

I think that anybody who starts to expand further than just a handful of clients will realize that cold calling WILL become necessary and actually a tool if done properly.

Re: DOnt be afraid to cold call
If you KNOW and BELIEVE in your gut what you are selling is of value to the guy on the other end of the line you simply cannot get nervous. You get anxious when you are unprepared or have this self-limiting belief that you are wasting his time and not the other way around.
Making a ton of money is easy. It's just a numbers game.
1. Simple idea
2. Hungry market
3. Promotion
4. Bank
There's not a single millionaire who is not good at sales. Cold calling/approaching is maybe the top skill you can develop to be successful. Either this means getting rich or fucking women to you, you're always selling to people around you. 24/7. If not a product, you. And success is limitless once you master this.

Re: DOnt be afraid to cold call
I've noticed that with a lot of things that people do, they hesitate because they don't know what to do—not that they are scared of rejection.
It's more embarrassing to be asked a question about your your industry or your services, and you stutter to provide an answer that the other person can clearly understand, than to be told to F off. When you have trouble getting your answer to them, then you feel like you messed up, then you think they start judging you, then you think they are not taking you seriously....and so forth. It's all in our heads unfortunately.
I just finished my 5th cold call ever, and I have to say it's 5 times better than the first one. Now back to the drawing board—how can I make it even better. There was another thread around here about sipping on some alcohol right before a call, so that's something to look into as well.
Impossible? I'm Possible!

Re: DOnt be afraid to cold call
That is true. I used to cold call couple of years ago and always got nervous. Been out of it for a while. This time I am cold calling for myself.
No alcohol near-by. If there was, I would become an alcoholic
.
Have to get to it.

Re: DOnt be afraid to cold call
3 Steps to get through the Gatekeepers.
1. Make your voice sound deep. Those businesses get these type of calls daily and they are actually trained by talking to cold callers each day and are efficient in turning you down. Instead of having a cheerful or bubly voice and saying "Hi, this is ____ calling from _____, how are you doing today??" ,make your voice deep and manly and say "Hello, May I talk to "John Smith", its "richard burke". This give an authority to you and makes the gatekeeper think that this is not a regular call from a regular person.
Also, when people cold call, their voice level tends to go up. Try to maintain the pitch and your voice level.
2. Try to remember the name of the gatekeeper.
If there is more than one, call again and write down each and everyone's name and whenever you are cald calling them, ask in the same pitch and say "Hello is this "Julia", no, "Sara" ,no "Gaile" yes, Oh Hi Gaile, is "John" there? This is "Richard".
3. Keep Control. Always keep the control to yourself. You decide what you want them to do. Trust me guys, if you sound even a bit authorative on phone, that gatekeeper subconsciously has already pictured you as some one of worth, if the business owner is not available, then you just say something like this "please give "John" my message that, mmm, well , what time he would be there? Allright, you know what, i call him again then. Thanks for your help "Gaile".

I don't think getting ready to be extremely lazy beforehand works out in your favor.

Cold calling is not so easy to be managed as it seems to be. You have to develop the expertise after some extensive test calls and then you can generate leads only.

Rubbish if you cant close people down on the phone you are doing something very wrong.
Anything can be sold over the phone why go to the expense of visiting people.
Visiting = costly, will take a lot of time out of your day, will mean you probably only get to see a maximum of 10 people.
Telesales
Phone up to 100 people a day reach and speak to lots of decesion makers, chase for rpt business get other products to sell and expand on the client base, rinse rpt bank

Depends on your reaction. I'm extremely quiet and reserved usually, but it makes me very outgoing and talkative, even if it is a bit hard to focus lol. Sort of a trade-off.

Well what are you selling? A lot of times the services BHW people sell are a lot more effective than traditional routes many companies take, so I assume you are selling something along those lines (SEO, mobile marketing, ORM, etc.).
If they say their budget is spent, find out what they're spending it on and explain how your service can not only cut costs by allowing you to eliminate some of their ineffective strategies, they will also increase ROI because your service is more effective.
Example is that a company is buying ad space in a magazine. If you do SEO, your services will help them reach a much larger audience (say, a whole city searching for their services rather than a select number of people in the city who read that magazine) with a much faster and more targeted response rate. Same goes for AdWords, etc. (most people [believe 75%? could be wrong] look at organic results instead of ads) - you can triple their exposure on the same page for equal or lesser cost.

This, plus I can't see them. I feel like I'm pretty good with people in person. I'm a people person. I'd rather walk into the business and talk to them face to face. I just know how I feel when someone calls me and tries to sell me something, the answer is hell no, no matter what it is. I know that's not the way it is with everyone else, but it makes me think I'm just gonna waste my time...

Same here, but I'm starting to realize that I also don't fall for email scams or phishing offers or hyped up crap I.M material (lol had to put that in there) on a simple squeeze page BUT I also realize that there are a lot of people who DO fall for that stuff and so there have to be people that also buy things over the phone still. And since my stuff is legitimate and beneficial my product/service should sell better if I can just present it in some fashion. I think some of us here are smarter then the average bear and need to realize that we can probably cold call a lot better then we think. I think I just talked myself into making a call, I'll be right back
I.M. is 10X harder when you have to make money. It's like gambling when you have to win.

Re: DOnt be afraid to cold call
I guess we all have different reactions to the various situation and substances, so the bottom line is to just do it and see what happens, then adjust accordingly.
But I think we can all agree that once we get past this part, we will just outsource and expand and not have to worry about the grunt work.
Impossible? I'm Possible!
