Tip for your mailing packets
Well I believe many of us have given another BHW member 7878 many well deserved thanks for sharing his "22 Letters" business venture with us. Within the posts he discussed including a pair of dice in these packages to prospective clients as a way to set yourself apart from competitors and as a way to make them want to see what is inside of the package.
I did a little testing to see if I could get better returns with these kits and I've found that including a little 1 or 2 gig flash drive, that can be easily purchased in bulk for very cheap from a variety of online vendors (possibly even other BHW members!), gets the best response from what I've seen.
Seriously, you can get like a hundred of them in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors for less than seventy cents per flash drive. Oh, and no I do not sell wholesale flash drives or anything of the sort, so this isn't some ploy to promote sales.
Prospects have actually thanked me for the flash drive upon responding to the letter. Its actually a pretty cool feeling.

Re: Tip for your mailing packets
How do you tie in the flash drive with the letter? In other words, what is your headline?

What do you put on the flash drive, anything?

Re: Tip for your mailing packets
I tie it in by telling them that there is a free document included on the flash drive that goes over some of the statistics of the online review world.
"White Paper" as 7878 calls it in his threads. if you haven't seen his threads yet, I highly recommend them. look for "22 Letters = $XX,XXX".

A friend of mine had a security company and used to mail his potential clients a flash drive with his company name on it. I don't see why they'd hire me just because of the flash drive, but loading it with the whitepaper is a neat idea.

Hmm.....interesting idea!
I would have thought that people might be wary of using a flash drive from an unknown source, but I guess not!

Search the forum here in Wholesale section...there's a member selling them for less than $2 each. Some really cool ones, too.

Re: Tip for your mailing packets
dice are that you need...the idea is that more people will open something that is bulky.

-
Re: Tip for your mailing packets
if packaged properly, a flash drive can seem bulky. or if you REALLY wanna think outside the box, put the flash drive in a slightly larger container.

Re: Tip for your mailing packets
Do you really think people will put a unknown flash/thumb drive from sales/junk mail. I support the creativity. The best way to get clients is too attend fund raisers and charitable events. Ask people what they think of seo and how much they spend if there business owners, get there card and hit em up 2 weeks later.
time to play the game.

well, I don't quite understand what you said, but I think you were saying that nobody will use, or even take a second look at, the flash drive in the package.
I do agree that sending a flash drive will be more "hit or miss" than sending a pair of dice, BUT I do also see that the prospects who weren't too paranoid to check it out did respond very well to it.
Good tip on the fund raisers, definitely a ton of potential.

Re: Tip for your mailing packets
glad it worked for you. I am quite surprised ppl would not have security concerns. That's crazy.
I probably would throw in small box with Shredded money in it (not real ), or a picture of a guy wiping his behind with a $100 (fake) and something like "Is this your marketing ROI?"
way back we did a direct mail marketing campaign for a real estate and used a mid size USPS Box. Threw hay in it and attached it to a needle (large plastic one) with his business card. He made quite few sales from it.

Re: Tip for your mailing packets
I think you guys may be looking at it a little less like an officer of a small business with 5-10 employees tops and more like some guys who know a thing or two about the internet and how stuff like that could be exploited. I mean the simple fact is that I'm not passing on a virus by doing this and if they want to suspect that I am, the worst they can do is give me a call.

Re: Tip for your mailing packets
I'm wondering what day is best for them to receive the packets? Wednesday? Monday? Friday?

I would say probably tuesday or wednesday. monday they are busy because its the beginning of the week and they probably have to organize a lot of stuff for the week. friday their mind is already in weekend mode and they dont want to think about this stuff. thurday no idea, think a bit worse than tuesday/wedneyday.
any other ideas on this?

Re: Tip for your mailing packets
Fact is, you're never going to find the "perfect day" to send your packets out.
Why? Because each business has different busy days, and even then, each business owner is diverse in his/her way of answering interesting marketing ideas. And you never know when a business owner is going to have a terrible day.
In short, there are too many variables to think about. Go for mid-week, and you'll be fine. Go for early week, and you'll be fine. Send them out for late-week, and you'll be fine. It's a numbers game, just make sure you're hitting your numbers!
