I keep seeing them everywhere and I don't know what that is. My friend told me this was something to scan with an iphone to get prices and stuff. How do I implement this kind of thing? Is it very complicated?

Anybody got a story to share (success/failure/mixed)?

These are used for marketing to people with bar code scanner apps on their smartphones. They're used to promote offers, websites, URLs, etc. Many businesses are now starting to put them on marketing materials.

I actually put them on business cards. They wok great. Half the people don't know what it is and I explain it to them. Then they are amazed by it.

The other half think its interesting and scan it out of curiosity.

Can I generate a QR code that automatically adds someone to a mailing list?

Yeah thats a great idea I heard of a while back. I think I will start doing this too since I work in technology and its a cool story to tell.

I am suprised being a member of this forum that you didn't know what they where by now but at least now you do.


They are actually pretty cool, I remember the first time I saw it was when pepsi kept putting them on their cans with a little note saying "I wonder what this is"

or something to that effect. Could not help but google it...

Yes you can. You would have to make it link to a URL that had this feature thats the only thing you have to do.

I mean of course they will have to enter their email address and all that but I guess thats not what you wanted it to do right?

These things are everywhere.. I see them on advertisements all the time. Especially, on the sidewalk in Chicago etc.
You can scan these with your phone and it takes you to the URL programmed into them etc. Very cool stuff, but I doubt most people will know to do that.

I wanna know if anyones started using QR codes to send unwitting people to shock sites?

-Once they start sending them to shock sites people will realize how stupid they are and never scan them.
