Default [Google Places] Setting up a 'duplicate' listing - Any negative consequences?

    Hello,

The title isn't exactly correct, as it isn't "exactly" a duplicate. Here is the idea I have thought of, because I am pretty keen on getting GPlaces included with my site rental advertising packages.

It doesn't matter if a client has a verified or unverified listing. I want to make my own one that I am responsible for.

Let's say their address is 100 King Street.

If I sent a GPlaces postcard to 2/100 King Street (Unit 2/Suite 2 etc) then the post card will get through fine, as it will just get delivered to their address - even though the 2/100 King Street doesn't exist.

When I make the GPlaces listing, the name of the listing will be more general - something like {Their Town} Dental. I know Google requires the business name as the title, but in this case you can't point out that {Their Town} Dental is 'generic' because businesses do have fairly similar names for their clinics.

The website linked to the listing will be either mine, or a brand new domain that redirects to my local site - so that the GPlaces doesn't merge them.

The phone number will be a different one too, as it will be my own local number which I re-direct to any landline I want.

Essentially, the end result will be that there is another dental clinic at 2/100 King Street, with a different site, phone number, address etc.

So, it's not really a 'duplicate' in Googles eyes in this case.

Anyway, what do you guys think of the idea? Anyone tried this or something close out personally?

    ----

Also, adding the site to their GPlaces listing does give a jump because a client of mine recently made a GPlaces listing and it is on spot C (brand new listing) and all she did was add her website. The listing is only ranking for the same keyword (only 1) that her site is ranking for.

So, I am a little worried that if I use a domain redirect on my local listing page (to save GPlaces from merging the two into one and then losing a spot) the new domain will have no value in terms of SEO and therefore I lose a lot of that 'easy' push upwards.

    Thoughts?

Thanks guys, I know I'll get some good info!

in regards to google places- the big g is head hunting for spammers now in this field. Some legit business such as moving companies that try to get that local address are getting deleted. This field in my opinion is like a moving target- find one solution this week and bam see-ya!

If you are in my niche market, I would report you to "G" as a duplicate entry and they would probably take you down in a day or two. I have done this for mis-categorized businesses with much success.
