Been looking at buying the DirectoryPress WordPress plugin for making a business directory.

It mainly appeals because

- it's a 1-time purchase which can be used over, and I have 3 or 4 niches I'm looking to use it on.

- The themes look good and being Wordpress it should be easy-ish to style.

I've used PHPLD in the past but it's hard to get it to look modern, plus a licence is one site only.

I've seen a few posts mentioning it on here, and I've seen a few people have downloaded v5 from Member Downloads but has anyone used it for a site?

I've googled DirectoryPress reviews and it gets a bit of a slating so anyone with an opinion please share!

Vegas, hang out for Vantage from appthemes. They are taking RIDICULOUSLY long to release it but it should be close. BETA stage is soon, I think.

From my knowledge, Vantage is going to take any other WP directories and mop the floor with them. So check it out!

Thanks, had a look at that but I need something now, and this is still a bit vapourware, not even at Beta stage yet.

Also had a look at geotheme.com

Never heard of that Geo theme, sure looks interesting though.

The baby site example they had seems like the theme could get the job done, however. Kind of sucks that there's not much info about it as it appears to be new since I'm in a similar dilemma as you especially since I imagine it would be a pain to port your structure to another theme if the dev. team ditched it which is why I'm tempted to just do my own WP modifications to accomplish this.

Yeah I liked the baby site as well...problem is without buying I don't know how easy it is to make a site look that good.

Think I'm probably going to buy DirectoryPress as I've found a code to drop the cost to less than $50...worth a gamble at that price.

I've been itching for Vantage also, but its been pushed back so much its gotten downright stupid and you feel like ya can't trust their word as to when it will finally go live. UGH, damn developers. That being said, yeah Directorypress is a decent product. I use it on a a site now and while it took a fair bit of customization, I am pretty happy with it.

what site that you've work with Directorypress. can we have a look at it.I'm going to buy also but still curious to know pro and cons.. tq..

I've been using the Geotheme for a while. Support sucks and you have to buy the full license over again ($85) if you don't renew your support subscription which is $47 every 6 months. Keep that in mind + lots of plugins doesn't work cause the author has crammed it up with all kinds of javascripts that it makes you go nuts when you try to customize something.

All in all. This GeoTheme sucks bigtime and your better of testing on of the competitors instead. They might suck too, but not more :)
