    Default SEO Consulting by accident

    Greetings all.

This is the first time I've started my own thread here so go easy on me!

First of all, let me thank everyone for their input on this site because without the professionalism and expertise of so many people here I'd know nothing. Everything I know, which isn't much because I'm still learning and experimenting, I learnt right here.

Anyway, enough waffle, let me get to it...

I've been writing a few articles for a member here and want to expand my services to a small number of webmasters on a long term basis if possible. Having written succesfully for the BHW member, I placed an ad for article writing services on gumtree- for those of you not in the UK, gumtree is a free advertising site-a bit like CL I suppose. I'm now writing for a regional business here in the North West of England across a spectrum of their websites.

I'm invited to attend a meeting with the Managing Director in a couple of weeks time to gain a better understanding of his business etc to help make the article writing easier. Now here's the thing...

He has been asking more and more questions about the wider aspects of SEO. Questions which take me outside of my role as SEO optimised article writer. It is now a nailed on certainty I'd say, that he will want to engage my services more generally to look at SEO across all his company websites. Now I am comfortable enough with on page SEO but with the off-page stuff I'm clueless and I wouldn't dare try and claim I can do something that I can't.

So, it seems to me, that should this all arise when we meet, and I am certain it will, I should say that I can take it on but be upfront about outsourcing the off-page stuff like linkbuilding etc. What do any of you guys think? Have any of you here had this happen to you? How did you play it? I want to be prepared.

I'm only getting paid at an article-writing rate of pay but we are beginning to step outside of the scope of that.

Their websites are HTML sites and I'm not techie in any way whatsoever. Should I even suggest they switch over to Wordpress for better SEO optimisation or what?

    Thanks in advance.

My take? Go with what you know and learn as you go along. Find a trusted and reputable SEO guy and white label his services if you can. Go into the meeting and let your people know SEO is more are than science, like medicine and financial planning but a good SEO guy can get the job done but it wont be cheap!

Make sure that you A) leave enough room to make some $ for yourself and B) Go with someone that has had results in the past.

I try to focus on developing my own team of outsourcers. I'm also testing out fiverr for some smaller jobs.

I'd partner up wit an SEO specialist and start a new company. Article writing and SEO go hand in hand..
