Hmmm, any guides?
Long time reader, first time poster. I've been wondering if there was a guide/post where one can learn SEO. I only seem to be finding guides about affiliate marketing and whatnot.
I don't really know how to explain myself but here it goes. For example, an offline SEO marketer has a 6 month contract with a client. His duty is to rank the client's website highly on google and help achieve more customers. Cool. But what do you do EXACTLY month after month? Do you just rank the website highly the first month and let it sit there?
Can anyone kindly point me towards a guide? Thanks!

Its not just a 1 month job . You have to first rank it and then look forward it and build slowly backlinks to maintain the postition of the keywords .

Re: Hmmm, any guides?
Yes, i admit this is really a dark side when we think about starting a SEO company. There are many guides available in Download secession but havent crossed the exact one you are talking about. Anyhow try reading all the offline marketing and SEO related materials each will give you a nice point. Also these guides may help you.
You can get perfect SEO company start-up guide from here:

This guide is not about SEO but about starting a web designing company, but i assure yo that this will help you far better than other material. Just twist it.

I am not aware of other materials just these 2 came in my mind. There may be many awesome materials available just keep digging it.
All the very best.
It's not the hours you put in your work that count, it's work you put in the hours

Re: Hmmm, any guides?
Well if I was running an SEO company I would:
#1. Determine the difficulty in ranking the keyword.
#2. Decide on a link velocity such as 20 links/week. You want to vary the types of links and anchor texts obviously.
#3. Outsource as much as you can.
I'm assuming this is what most white/grey hat SEO guys are doing. You don't want to be sued if google sandboxes your client's websites because you bought a few fiverr services that got him 100,000 backlinks in a week. Make sure your contract is good so you don't get sued.

heh, SEO is a tricky thing, I guess if you want to get clients that are looking for SEO services, they would definitely ask your portfolio. I recommend to start your own website and explore the things in your side before you will offer your service to anyone else.

You're a long time reader and yet you've just joined?
EDIT: You charge them the first month payment and then discuss with them something like " It will be $XXX-$XXXX depending on the competition, to keep your site on page 1 each month after the first ranking."

Ranking a site at say top ten or first page of google is one thing but to let it be there and do not come down, you have to make effort on regular basis.
