    Default getting started with seo

Ok, I am a newb, but just thought someone could help me out here. I want to start my own seo services - acquiring clients and convincing people is not much of a problem, I'm good at that side of things. But its the technical aspect of actually doing the seo which I do not have a clue about. I want to make sure I do it right, as if I don't, I won't have happy customers! Will be targetting mainly dentists, podiatrists, plastic surgeons in the UK, and will be sticking to just one client per site. In terms of prices, will be charging in the region of £500 - £1000 a month depending on the client.
Is there any course or something I should buy to learn about it, or just pick bits up here and there? I understand having a professional sexy looking site is not the key, but it still needs to look decent, any suggestions for good templates or site builders? Someone recommended EZ Empire builder, but problem is to acquire the right databases to work with. Anyway, any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Start by reading the White Hat SEO sub-section on BHW. Also, if I remember correctly there's a beginner section on SEOMoz to help you get started.

I would recommend you to test yourself first and build 1-2 site(s) and rank them for different keywords like "dentist in burningham", "plastic surgeon in london". This way you'll be able to experiment different strategies and see what works and what doesn't work.

Finally, you can also outsource the technical aspect of this business BUT I would STRONGLY suggest you to have at least a little understanding of how SEO works. Otherwise you might get scammed or outsource to a newbie and you will end up losing your clients because of your poor performance.

    Good luck!

Do people really pay that amount of money for their site on the first page or top 3 of google? Even if it would be on the first place I doubt they would pay such a large piece of their monthy salary to a personal website. I was thinking more like 299€ per month. If you have 4 clients that makes 1200€ per month which isn't that bad for passive income.
I'm scared that if I ask too much, no "dentist in <city>" will reply to my mailing and I'm stuck with the website.

It depends on how much their R.O.I will increase if they use your services. It also depends on how much a client is worth to them and the economic situation of your territory.

A dentist in Beverly Hills will make A LOT of money from 15 new clients per month and will be willing to pay $1,500/month for your services if they make $30,000/month from your services.

A dentist in a small town in Romania won't make the same money and might not even have the capital to pay for your services. The internet traffic might be much lower too and he might only gets 2-3 new clients each month by being ranked in the top 3 for a few keywords. In this particular case, charging $1,500/month will result in a big "NO THANKS" and charging $150/month might get you the sale.

I would probably adjust the price according to what I think would be suitable, but I'm only going to work with certain types of businesses. Thanks for giving me those sources, I'll definitely start by reading those, but is there any course which you recommend to buy which would have everything I need to learn, in a clear, concise package? Obviously, its all free info, but I'd rather learn everything without any fuss and get on with the work.
