Even though I was really excited getting my first callback I acted very coy and the fact that I'm genuinely busy all week just made it more believable.
I'm going to send out 10 packets this weekend and see how it pans out. If I can make enough to go full time doing this then I could easily send out 5-10 packets a day. It's just a numbers game.
If anyone is interested I am creating an Excel spreadsheet and a Word document to make the whole process simpler using a mail merge. I can post them up over the weekend if anyone would find them useful.
I'll post a full report when I start seeing some results

Yeah I'd be interested to see this, thanks.

Re: Got my first client after only sending out 3 packets
another item you may want to add to each packet is how their business shows on getlisted.org. Showing a big fat 0% is a pretty good deciding factor on whether they should be investing in local SEO.

I know my opinion wasn't asked, but I think it's silly to work with only 1 business in each niche per city. I would do 2 or 3 honestly. After hitting up your own area, target other cities 30+ miles away.
I hope so. I have sent out 36 packs so far, and have not heard anything yet. I know the calls will come tho

How did your mailshot turn out? Did you get any calls back after sending the 36 packets?

Re: Got my first client after only sending out 3 packets
Ok as promised here are the Word & Excel mail merge docs. Go through the Word doc and change all of your details once then save it.
Add your prospects' details to the spreadsheet as you research them. I usually copy the folder for each new batch.

This will speed up the process hugely and save you time. You should be able to knock out 10 in an afternoon with ease.

Re: Got my first client after only sending out 3 packets
Choronzon. Thank you so much for the upload! - I opened the Doc and referred it to the xl sheet but it didn't propagate the info. Is it supposed to? or is there a specific way I should be loading them. Sorry I sound like a dimwit, just wanted to check though.

Re: Got my first client after only sending out 3 packets
Just curious with this mail merge our you sending this out by email? the reason I ask because I that the mail merge plugin for thunderbird, but not sure if that's how you using it. Unless your using it to just keep track before post the packets out.

Can you upload a full package as an example of what you use ? I want to study it and see if I can improve on it.

Re: Got my first client after only sending out 3 packets
Ok here are the docs with some details filled in
download
Code:

VT
Code:
https://www.virustotal.com/file/ddef16079f313333e0e0d87f2dbc1f4987f48bf722ec883ae5797d18bdf303a0/analysis/1329102992/
And, here is the whole process (from memory).
Firstly find all of the clients you want to send to and fill in their details in the spreadsheet called "Customer Details.xlsx"
Next, go to google keyword tool and do your keyword research. Have a look at the keyword oxon file to see how I copied, cropped and pasted this together. You should only need to do this once per batch (see below).
I also download the keyword results and pasted them into the "Customer Details.xlsx" file on the right. This makes it quicker to get a rough estimate of the number of searches.
Next I did a quick search in google using one of the keywords and created a screenshot of this, see the example search oxon to see what I mean, again you should only need one copy of this saved.
Then...
Open the Word doc "mergeplacementletter.docx" into Word. If it asks if you want to run the SQL command say yes and if necessary choose "Customer Details.xlsx".
If it doesn't link itself to the excel file choose Mailings --> Start Mail Merge --> Letters then choose Select Recipients --> Existing List --> and choose the "Customer Details.xlsx" file.
If you use something like Yellow Pages to gather your leads you can easily find 15 to 20 leads in the same category i.e. Accountants. That way you will only need one copy of the "keywords" and "search" documents since each customer will be sent the same thing.
I hope this helps but I can see that my explanation is not the greatest and there is room for misinterpretation so if you need any clarification then please just ask.
OP, I am really sorry if this hijacks your thread I am just really keen that people try this out for themself and to this end I am just trying to make the process as simple as possible.
Hope this helps...
