Mobile Optimized Websites

I was wondering if anyone has ANY experience in this. I am starting this up by this coming Monday in my local area and I dont quite understand how you are suppose to provide hosting for a mobile version of their site when they already have an established website.

So if Joes Pizza has a nice website that has been up for years, but no mobile version, how am I supposed to offer a mobile optimized version of their site that I host?

The ideal way is to host it on clients subdomain on their server because this would also "move" the seo work from the desktop site to the mobile version. Best thing is to setup a subdomain called m.joespizza.com. Just Google for some redirect scripts. These scripts can detect the mobile device and display the mobile optimized page automatically.
 
I understand that about the redirecting, I have been a PHP dev for almost 3 years now, but the thing that is weird to me is that I would have to meet go to each business get their FTP info and do that? That seems like it would make it more awkward for the client.

Thanks though, I understand what you mean. I just wasnt sure of the practice fully because its either...

a.) Fully host their website by myself (because the service is free but I am charging them $39.99 for hosting to make the money)

b.) Have them host it on their own servers (which wouldnt make sense to them if I asked for hosting fees)

Sorry if I am being confusing, lol.
 
If they're already hosting, just offer them a one time setup/design fee to mobilize their site and get your nut that way. Otherwise, if you're hosting you can just backend the hosting charges as well for a profit gain.
 
This is easy.
1. Put a redirection script on their site.
2. Modify the Cname to forward to your hosting domain.

I have an affiliate program and CMS that lets you do this. PM me if you are interested.

you can still do this by having a subdomain like pizza.yourwebsite.com
and in the redirection script this is where they will have to go to see the site hosted

but if they already have a website then its best practice to just go into their FTP and host it for them and say its FREEEEE! OR just charge an Installation FEE in addition to the Website Made


cause sooner or later they will learn about this from someone and think yu screwed them up
especially with local business its best to not screw them over lol for your long term relationship with your clients.

tons of affiliate and CMSprograms.. they get their commission too besides you have to pay a yearly fee and then later if they close down you are pretty much screwed, in my personal opinion its best to do it your self - build the site yourself.. and host it onto the clients FTP

Totally agree with this. Such kind of programs that 'claim' to make it easy to set up a mobile site are mostly for the ones who either do not know how to code or are technically challenged. If you can gain access to the ftp's have enough skill you could as well do it on your own and save yourself and your customers some money.
