Ok, so I am outsourcing work for what I believe will be an amazing game for Android and iOS. The app will be free with a few in game upgrades and ads. A Few questions I have.

-What's the typical earnings you can bring in from ads alone on an average application. Any range here from experienced app owners would be great.

- For hosting do I host the backend of the app on a regular web host? If I were to get over a million downloads how would I quickly be able to scale the size of the hosting package? What services would you recommend?

- Marketing. What's the best way to market new apps to the world?

I have over 40 free apps, on average you can expect 100+ downloads a day on a decent app with good app seo, any app that you get lucky with (not lucky as in quality, lucky as in keyword algorithm) then 1000+ a day. I have had free apps that have gotten 100k+ downloads per month, with this type of traffic admob revenue is insignificant, hundreds if your lucky. Monetize apps using more clever methods, mobile products, think smart.

I promote my apps by putting them on (keyword) website. neatly designed with mobile interface, make youtube vids in aftereffects that are neat and useful, do some qr stuff and integrate it all together. promoting all apps and mobile website which links to market apps and profile, etc.

If your really clever youll link relevant forums/blogs to your site, and also have relevant forums/blogs/site linking to your android market through normal extension and market:// extension for mobile browsers. Setup a facebook page for your main site, integrate that in as well, and you got yourself a nice little app business.

Tbh I make more money with pay-per-install, admob is small. apple ads might pay better I'm not sure I don't do apple. In the android market, good games tend to go viral and you can get 1 million + installs a month, or more. but you need to market it full swing as I mention above. I hope this helps.

I know this works because I'm doing it.

im curious with "pay-per-install", what do you mean by that? In-app purchase?

no just paid apps, sorry.

paid apps have worked much better for me than monetizing free apps, take for granted a few worked out well, but not as consistent as a well thought out paid app.

Depends on what ad network you use. on Apple, in iAds, i read a case study where those in the top 100 free apps were averaging $200-5,000 per DAY. again, that's top 100, and theres tons of apps out there. But you can make consistent income. Since it's a game, have ads pop up "between levels". Increases your chance of clicks, and more importantly, makes most people just want to pay the 99 cents or whatever to get the version without ads.

Hey Mackie PM me your skype, I've created an iphone app and would love to talk to you to get some marketing ideas ..

paid for programs have performed much better for me than making money totally free programs, take for offered a few worked out well, but not as continuous as a well considered out paid for app.

Which kind of app's are you guys creating? Isn't it a lot of work for almost no gain?
I guess you are using a couple of days to create an app and the income is passive, but aren't you creating 100's of these to make it profitable?
