Is anyone currently doing bulk SMS marketing? We all know how powerful direct contact is in marketing, especially when the device is glued to the persons hand 24/7/365

I have been seeking a company to build a large targeted opt in list for me as well as blast the list. Does anyone know a legitimate company that provides these services?

Also, do you build your own SMS opt in list or do you outsource? I would love to talk about list building strategies since this marketing type is fairly new. I have some ideas to use twitter to build an sms opt in list...

Also interested in this. Is anyone making money with SMS?

im sure many people are making money with sms, i would like to talk about various sms marketing tactics

Have you considered doing longcode over shortcode SMS - both have valid pros and cons?

what are you actually trying to do with the SMS - get people to opt in so as you can send them offers kinda thing? or offer it as service to business?

I am currently building SMS lists in a number if ways. I am interested in bulk list building.

Here's one idea for you. Build a mobile website. Take a high converting CPA offer. Build a one field submit form that has the creative banner for the offer. Collect their mobile number and then redirect them to the CPA offer they were interested in. It will cost you some money using Admob but you can drive a rediculous amount of targeted traffic for cheap. This way you build a niche list, regardless of whether or not the offer converts. If it does convert, you pick up the commission on it as well.

The last campaign I ran for singles text dating landed me about 1,200 mobile subscribers. My cpc was around .10

Not a bad cost per lead

i will now do research about the differences between longcode over shortcode, thanks for bringing it up

but what i am actually trying to do is have a legit company build a targeted opt in list for me. then i would like this company to blast this list for me also. but i need this targeted opt in list so i can expose them to my home based business opportunity. do you have any ideas? thank you

do you already have an sms gateway?

nope, i dont have an sms gateway, i am looking to use a companies sms gateway. what do you believe is the most professional method to send bulk sms? thank you

thank you for the tips, i will definitely look into this list building method.
so you still advertise for the cpa offer to first get traffic to your one field submit form? i would think cpa networks would have a problem with this...

i think the most powerful way is to use email to sms method... but its hard to setup such a thing. At least i am trying to figure it out :/

yea, that does seem like a very powerful method.
and yea, im pretty sure that it is very hard to setup for yourself, it probably requires a lot of legitimate technical work
i know yahoo, aim, msn, etc. have this method for their instant messenger users but thats another story...

Sorry,

Forgot to mention that I am a 20+ year career nerd. It Doss take some technical work, but is well worth the effort. As for CPA networks, they don't care as long as coregistration is allowed on the offer.

personally i wouldn't go down that route - but thats just me... at the minimum i would do long code with someone like twilio or someone who offers a longcode platform at least... that would be the cheapest...

the reason being if you send out a lot of emails as sms - you have no idea if your reaching your client... for example with both long code and short code you will get a response code so at least you know your messages are being delivered...

email sms is to some extent frowned up and more likely to be considered spam - if you deliver a large rate to a particular network provider you may find your email blocked... of course you can change your mail servers and such but for me its just not a reliable way of doing it

at least with short codes and long codes you can choose different keywords and such

but if it works for you go with it - just adding my 2 cents :)

very interesting : )

I thought about rotating the content and ips etc... so i wouldnt get blacklistet fast.

but i will check twilio out!

Give it a go! Am all for giving things a try end of the day you will see if its works by your CPA conversion ratio! ;)

If you make good coin - get it whilst you can! lol

alright, good to hear, because the cpa method that you mentioned seems very powerful to me. thanks :)

@martbost - sorry man i missed your post! Yeah kodus to you for taking the initiative! :)

just fyi guys

twilio.com have gone live with their sms shortcode service - looks like their pricing is $500 more than a regular short code per month but the sms messages are 1c outbound and 0.5c inbound with zero contracts which is not a bad deal really

you will need your own platform to deliver the messages but their API is awesome!

if its any use i have helped setup an sms shortcode with 4info too they where very helpful during the provision phase of the shortcode although their API was different from a lot of the other gateways

hope that helps

One way I have earned money with SMS marketing is going to a business (not normally a large chain) and I buy a list of numbers for a certain city like example Seattle. Then I offer to send out a mass text to 1m+ Seattlites and say something for their company. Such as-- "Hungry? Come to Daves Burgers for lunch today and receive a 10% discount!" or "Come to Bills Sports for our annual rock climbing gear sale! Ends this thursday!"

hey epiks - what was you using to send out the SMS - where they email to SMS messages or through a sms gateway?

any ideas what your conversion ratio was like?

i don't condone this but Facebook is leaving people wide open to getting there phone numbers scraped and spammed - most people don't realize but they're mobile phone numbers are visible by all there "friends"...
