How to encourage members activities in your site

i have a music network and its nice looking but the problem that i dont understand is why do people sign up in the site then never comeback or dont even complete their profile ,,,could please someone show me some tips to let and encourage members to post and complete their profile,,i made a nice options & features in my site and i am looking for some tips to know what i am doing wrong , i'd really appreciate if someone share me some tips,,i am in need of useful & effective tips

People tend to have the attention spans of a fly these days,
especially online, unless you have something very compelling which
holds their attention span. You might want to somehow incentivise
your profile completion process, but if your completion rate is so
undesirable other important factors could be at play. Very hard to
tell really without seeing and evaluating and experiencing the actual site
in full.

Look at how they've found your site in Analytics... could they be a bot like Xrumer or whatever trying to post crappy profile links?

One of my sites has almost 9,000 sign ups, we go through and delete the spam accounts so they are legit. For the most part, to break down the demographics I'd say :

65% Fill out the profile in some way, either by adding an avatar/setting their bio.
35% Just create an account and never come back
------------------------------------
Of the 65% That join and fill out the profiles -> 80% Will visit our video chat once and never come back, 15% will be off and on and 5% mostly stick to talking to people outside the chats via pm/message boards.

Maybe at any given time 5% will be regulars for some period of time (until they piss off the moderators)

When we first started a few years ago, our bounce rate was pretty low. Average time spent on the site was high because people literally lived on it. My suggestion is create multiple avenues for people to interact with.

they are human being,,,most of them use Facebook,Twitter to join

hello thanks for the replies , i am new here ,,i didnt include my website url here ,,,but you can check it out in my profile,,its a Music website ,,,it does offer a lot of options & features like :
- import and show your instagram photos
- import your soundcloud & reverbnation players
- or upload Your Music using our site ,
- import your facebook fan page and twitter feeds
- import your youtube channel
- make money using the traffic you lead to your profile
- a nice forum and interesting blog
- a discussion room

i still not sure how to make people post and get active ,,,,if my webite wasnt interesting ,,why would people join right ? but here's the problem,,,why would they join if they wont use it ? i started last year in January but didnt launch the site till like after 6 till 7 months,,you know working,testing,removing,,,etc ,, and guys ,,the thing that really confused me that most of analyzing sites say that i have like 202 dollars as revenue monthly but all i got is like 8 dollars so far lol ,,i dont understand whats going and thanks a lot for all your replies

if i tell you ,,that the members who use the site,,,do not even know how to write their own biography specially rappers,,,,thats really driving me crazy ,,,most of them include urls to other sites in their profile ,,,,i added a lot of support articles to help them using the site,,,the site is so simple,,its so similar to Facebook in its platform but all i got is bunch of spammers to speak ,,,unable to complete their profile then they start complaining about they dont get enough views and fans ,,,lol crazy to be honest

Get them on a mailing list... send them regular updates?

That's what always works best for me. I love having the constant ability to get into their phones, or computers, to deliver a personal message.

you think i didnt,,,i always send them messages,,,i am really tired ,,if my site sucks ,,,i'd not bother myself to try and understand why people dont sign up or use the site if they sign up ,,,,my site collects all social & music accounts in one profile ,,,from other sites such : Music sites << reverbnation,soundcloud,mixcloud,youtube,datpiff,,,beside that ,,,you can also include and import your social network activities like facebook fan page and twitter feeds,,linked in ,,all these ,,my keywords relevancy are higher according to a lot of sites,,i really dont know what to do anymore,,,other sites that may offer half of my site features are having premium memberships ,,,so depressed ,,i offer free options and features ,,,but it seems like none can care at all ,,,,
according to you ,,,isnt this enough of features to let people excited to join ,,,
without to mention that you can sign up using more than 240 social networks as hotmail,yahoo,google,,,wordpress,,aol,,,,facebook,,,twitter,,,,

login with facebook so they don't have to fill in profile and sends messages to fbook friends.

log in to the different sites accounts and than suggest the people and also suggest to the friends of the friends.

My only suggestion is to find a artist to promote it in a song ad whatever.
