Im rolling out a new dating site to replace my landing page that was generating cash by generating sign ups for a large dating website.

Basically the site is Live and to start with I am allowing anyone to get free membership.

To get them to sign up to a site with no users Im doing the following

* Guests are unable to search profiles. If they saw there were zero members they wouldnt join.

* Free membership for all. Once I have a decent number of users Ill switch to charge for males only.

Im looking for some advice.
Would you wait for a decent amount of sign ups before you approve their profiles.. As if I approve quickly when they log in they will see there are no members on the site LOL. Which may put them off the site.

I was thinking maybe wait until I get at least 10 or 20 of each sex before I approve their profiles. What do you think?

The good news is only 10mins after making site Live and I already have a new male member who has signed up. I drive traffic from a landing page thats already on page one of google :-)

Seems nice, after that, signup to cpa sites as an advertiser, then start with 35% shaving with high payout. Decrease shaving percentage on money converting affiliates.

Thanks yes never thought about recruiting affiliates. Normally Im the one referring to affiliates not the one paying them.

I have 3000 or so email addresses from an old dating site (now shutdown) in the same dating niche. Perfect candidates for the new site.

Is there a risk emailing them all offering free membership or would this be classed as spam?. I want to keep this site above board. Would it be classed as spam if I mail them all once with offer for the free sign up with link to the new site?

Instead of dealing with the problem of no profiles, I would hire X number of freelancers to pretend to be real members. Of course they would have to get cover stories as to why they could not hook up with the real member at the moment.

I guess thats one way to do it. Last time I had over 3000 members without spending a dime though. Trying to keep costs low if possible. Maybe I could create members myself to get started using various aliase emails across my domain portfolio. If registrations are slow though I could go down freelancer route.

I would build up the members as quickly as possible but not open up the site fully until you have a few hundred women and as many men as possible with member profiles!

Why? Easy folks are easily put off when not much is going on and no men and women profiles are on show!

I write content for a host of these type of sites to attract new paying members - so I have a handle on what is needed to make dating sites a success.

How do you suggest I close the site to start with then? Should I just take a couple of weeks or a month to approve new profiles. Waiting until there are over 100 members.

Or should I let them in but disable messaging or profile searching. But surely thats even more a turn off for them. Ive removed paid membership options and will add when I have few thousand members.

Yes I did but I didnt want them shaving my profits so im hosting my own on a dedicated server to keep profit to myself.

I was previously making cash by referring new signups but realise that the $5 per signup.I was getting is making the site owner potentially $100 a month if users upgrade to gold membership.

Ive found some websites that sell fake profiles that can be loaded directly into the dating sites database to give illusion of members.

Any of you guys tried this or have a link where I can grab some profiles?

This would make the site look more active-busy.

Just hire some people here to create maybe 100 male and 100 female fake profiles or. Then once you got a decent amount of real profiles you can delete the fake ones. I have a 1 month old dating site and did exactly this and now have 700 real members already and removed the fake ones and its now growing steadily.

Strategy Im using to get new users to sign up

Email campaign to 6000 previously registered users on my old dating site in same niche outsourced to guy on fiverr.

Adwords campaign using 100$ voucher for $25 down.

Created 1000 fake users by creating an imacros script for firefox

Manually added random profile pics

Manually posted threads in forum on site using multiple users responding to threads.

Will now see how new registrations go over next few weeks

Once I get over 1000 genuine users with decent amount of female I will delete the 1000 fakw profiles.

does your site offer an new twist on online dating? it seems the only branching out in this industry is into dating sites by race and religion.

Firstly I will offer completely free dating just like the POF model. I will need to see if advertising income turns profits. If not I will keep it free for females but introduce charges for males only when I have a few thousand users.

If anyone wants to JV on this new site hit me up. Im running the script on dedicated server but need marketers to get the new sign ups.

I also outsourced an email campaign to send out invites to my old users but they seem to be struggling. Emails are hotma1l and yah00 and I need to get the emails in their inboxes not in spam folder.

Great thread with lots of good information. I doubt he'll share the site name, though it would be super interesting! I'm also doing a dating/chat site startup so will utilize a fair amount of this information. That's definitely a struggle, establishing that initial social proof, at least long enough to tip over the edge into large amounts of REAL members.

Now I get what I'm seeing on some of these new social networks I've been looking at, new sites and tons of fake profiles. Aha! BHW-ran.

Also, saw the OP was looking at stuff like SkaDate and the like - what did you end up using as your platform?

That's easy bro. Go ahead and create a few fake profiles to make things look legit. Things should start rollin' from there on

my initial plans for my dating site is to hire sexxy VA's to act as guest relations .. they'll pm /talk to new male guys and chat with them.

in that way, they'll feel at home because most of these guys who joined dating sites are either sad/lonely or broken hearted

That's a lot of work dude. Why not just build a dating site from a legitimate whitelabel provider. The only thing that you need to do is promote your site. I can help you with this if you're interested.

Before creating your own dating website, haven't you thought of building up a customers list?

I mean... I have tons of unique traffic daily on my dating offers (as an affiliate) for other dating sites... But i'd need like 100k daily visits to create a good dating network, eh! o__o

Maybe make it local to your zone only..?

just starting the same thing myself, I plan to use northeasthosting and get them to prepopulate the site with a few hundred members

Just signed up with Dating Factory. Taking baby steps but invested in making this work 100% It's quite the learning curve for me.

Get ur female friends to sign up pay them a small fee. Post sexy pictures. May be get an ewhoring pack with sexy girls n start making profiles urself until u get enough sign ups advertise in other dating site by making girls profile n invite user to ur site.
