Can someone please give me some advice on hosting cost?
I have a dating site with 30,000 members ..but the site is inactive.
My hosting company is charging me $60..and i don't want to continue this as my dating site is really not working out. It only gets around 40 visitors a day. How much should i be paying for hosting? Is the hosting charge for the amount of members i have? Or should i be paying much much less. Please advice on where i should move my hosting account.

It depends what dating script you are using as some scripts take a lot of resources.

If its got 30,000 members why are you only getting 40 visits a day? Market it more and build on it

The hosting charge is roughly based on features, disk space used and bandwidth used.

40 visitors a day won't use enough bandwidth to worry about, I doubt your member database is 50 meg so even the cheapest plan will offer enough disk space.

Do a search for something like "shared linux hosting" and you will find lots of plans for less than $10 /month that will do the job.

Price is fixed of certain range of bandwidth and space

x10hosting google it...use their free hosting service all the time....for most of my lower/profit sites.

Exactly my thoughts too (I'm thinking more like 29,900 fake or spam signup - as the traffic should be a LOT more even with "just" 1000 members :-)

You didn't say whether your host charges you $60 per month, or $60 per year. For 40 visits a day, even a $60/year (or $5/month) host is overkill.

But if you ever plan on growing it, and getting some real members who actually come to your site and interact with your content and with each other, then you won't be able to run a 30K member site on a shared host.

You need at least a VPS at the very minimum. For that, I highly recommend LiquidWeb.

But as an aside, if you have a lifeless membership site like you have now, and you have no interest in running it, then better to just sell it off for what it's worth (probably not more than a few hundred bucks, assuming most of the emails are probably invalid or junk) and move on.
