I feel like it's not even worth it to think about a membership based site anymore, Is there anything at all that can command a longer attention span and commitment on a month to month basis anymore??

There just seems like there's soooo much content for free. I feel like the train has left the station.

On that topic, WHY is there so much free stuff? Is it a loss leader to TRY to get people in the door? Are the only folks making money the one's taking the pictures/video?

Free stuff still converts and it's a method for company's to launch branding campaigns.

I believe you can still do membership sites but you need to provide value to the consumer. It might not be as easy as it once was, but it is definitely possible. If you launch a site, expect to put tremendous amounts of effort into it.

You can utilize the free sites to post clips from your paid site with the URL watermarked on the videos/images.

Started my first adult paysite in 1999.
Wouldn't DREAM of getting into it today. You can go to any of the major tubes and see 100x the material that's inside a paysite, without paying a nickle.

If they've been lied to about content, prices, upsells and pre-checked/hidden cross-sells for years.....would they believe someone promising anything at this point? Probably not....but I don't think that's the major problem. The major problem is that just by visiting a tube or torrent site, they can get enough material to satisfy their needs for years and years --- for free.

There is virtually no hope of a newbie creating a profitable adult membership site. Take it from someone who's been in the industry around 20 years.

Going sub-niche or solo girl is a gross over-simplification. The entire process is kind of like someone who can drive a car thinking they can build a car engine.

You'd have far more chance of success promoting existing entities. And, in that case, go for solo girls, niche / sub-niche, and cams on a revshare payout.

I think it really depends on what you are doing. I am a photographer/videographer and I shoot with every day average girls here in the 4 state area. I have stuck with shooting custom content for private collectors and have been thinking about expanding to shooting custom for web content, etc. Actually business hasn't been too bad. I just think it depends on what you are doing. I myself have stayed away from making a subscription based website because there is nothing I can do to set myself apart from the big boys other than providing true amateur content.

I would suggest to first do a research, and try to find some really rare and weird fetish content, then take the time to grab as many content as you can in that niche.
If you can't find anything then quickly put together a general adult blog and fill it up with tons of porn.
Then check the log files for search terms ppl used to find your site. You'll be suprised

This could be a little disgusting sometimes but try to approach it as being funny instead.
Works better with friends.

Build an authority site in that particular niche, and then maybe try the following:
- Previews on site for free
- Download whole material for free but limit the amount of data allowed for like 24hrs or so
- Offer a 'support us' option ( paypal on a different site, blank referrer )

Give those who "donated" unlimited downloads.

That seems to be working although the weirder stuff you find and build the site around, the less traffic you get of course, but the percentage of ppl willing to pay some bucks is really high.

Key is having a large collection of unique weird content at one place, collected from different sources.

General adult is dead I think.

I think it is late for adult content membership time too. There are already many out there and within today, go to any search engine and ask for adult material, and you will get result that, if you spend checking it will never finish.

Beside many free tube are already there only for adult content.

It is hard to find a new niche specially once a website show up and start making some earning, next day in the morning another 1000 website show up. Magic lol

What do you mean collect the donations on a "clean site"? Would you register a site only for the donation? so if my site is xx.com, and they click the 'donate here' button, it'll take them to "donation-for-bandwidth.com", and there will be a paypal button for the donation?

i used to do porn going back 10 yrs and wow money was all over it.

- advertising campaings
- pharmacy
- video paysites memberships

I recently realized that the best way to gain money from adult market is selling services to other webmasters, for example link building, basic seo, banners, video promotion, directory submission, script installation (in order to hide your links somewhere on their server ), there are a lot of noobs out there ready to spend some bucks to get traffic

find that specific niche and you can be successful, just find something not everyone else is doing

Adult content sites can be very successful, just pick a route that you want to go ( videos, live cam, social network etc. )

I am a member of a few private forums / communities.
I stick with them as they offer a lot of value for the price they charge, they each offer something that for me, makes the monthly fee worthwhile.... something that is not available for free anywhere else... a unique selling point.

As for offering free stuff there are lots of reasons:

• link bait / SEO
• reputation / brand building
• freemium (give basic free, charge for add ons)
• selling related products

Actually, some free stuff is the key since it leads to other things. For example, a free content site may make their money from people clicking adult ads. Hope that makes sense.

I just do not believe it can be done now. No way. But if you get real niche specific you can still make some decent $100.00 - $500.00 a day money.

But your going to have to get real niche specific. Try panties and build sites around those key words. Or wife sharing. There are you two that could still work with the right content and if you can teach yourself to pre-sell your porn.

So true. I tell people all the time, "If I had just done what everyone else was doing, I'd have been retired a LONG time ago." But it was just too easy to make great money AND have scruples - I remember going out for a 60-minute consulting gig that paid me $90 --- getting home and seeing that I had 3 $35 signups while I was out --- and saying "why did I bother going out to work?" lol

Even the real niche specific stuff these days, you're going to have to work your ass off to make passable money at it. You can go to sharing sites and see more than enough to "do your business" - even if you're looking for midget lesbians or sex in chain mail

Like others said, the only real way to make money in the adult biz is with unique copyrighted content or amateur model sites.

There will always be a demand for special 'fetish niche' sites if you have the unique content. Can always start out on clips4sale . com and whore preview clips on the free youtube-esque sites and grow your empire from there.

As others said, the days of easy adult site profit is long gone.

I know a couple that are still doing well, you just need a Unique selling point.

And I've been running membership sites since 1999. If you have something unique, you'll do *better* than if you don't, theoretically. But we're very niched, and all of our members area stuff gets ripped and uploaded elsewhere as soon as it's posted. With niches, there are fewer potential members, so there's less potential revenue --- which leads me to say that most membership sites are on the way out in the next few years. Survival of VOD, yes. Membership sites, not likely.

I have a few adult affiliate sites. The money is not anywhere close to the way it used to be. If I didn't have some great domains with type in traffic and string ranking I would not get into it at all. But since I do I plan on developing about 40 more affiliate sites. Back in 2000 that would have been a great income now...no so much. But I have the domains and I can also sell other related products as well.

The problems is it's hard to get Adult SEO done. All of these great linking packages and no one want adult. I just screwed up a few of my sites with a stupid Fiverr gig that was a mistake.

I guess I'll have to do the link building myself or train and VA to do it for me. If anyone know of anyone that can manually build quality adult links for me at a cheap price link I can get non-adult PM me. If not I'll just odesk it.

I think it's a great time for the porn surfer. Yeah most are probably just dirty perverts but there are some of us who actually love the industry and love GOOD porn. If you skim back to pay sites in the 90s most of the content was half assed crap that any college dropout could do. Now it just doesn't sell if it's shit so some sites are struggling. Sites with good quality porn are doing extremely well however. To me, the milfhunter's porn work is always a great watch and casualteensexDOTcom as well. For the past couple of years I've considered starting an adult site myself. But some of the news stories about the U.S. Government charging website operators with violations of federal obscenity laws has always worried me, even though it is statistically unlikely. Does anyone out there currently operating an adult site worry about this? Would having a foreign host for your website help reduce this risk?

Unless you have your own, large, independent sources of traffic, or are an SEO wiz (and it's a lot different in adult than in mainstream, you can't use things like AMR and link pyramids in adult) --- you're probably not going to make very much.
